Apps

Please read these guidelines carefully, as failure to complete the application properly may result in a need for revision or outright rejection. Be sure that you have also read the Rules and General Info pages, the latter of which contains information necessary to write your RP sample.

Apping New Characters

In general, all answers besides the first two should be answered in full sentences with a reasonable grasp of the English language. Run it through a spell-checker; make your Grammar Nazi friend take a look at it. Nothing here needs to be a college thesis, but a little proof-reading can go a long way. We do not demand that your paragraph breaks come at an editorially ideal point, but we do demand that they exist.

We are also looking for insight over length. A longer application is not always better! Take the space you need to give a well-thought-out answer, but walls and walls of text will definitely not speed up the approval process.

Contact/Personal Info
A comment separate from your app with your name, preferred journal, and email. Making it a separate comment lets us know who you are, but lets us keep your email address screened.

Canon (and version, if applicable)
Should be pretty straightforward!

Reference Picture and Wiki link (again, if applicable)
Again, pretty straightforward!

Point in the time-line taken Whether the character comes from the end of the series or a point partway through. For characters being apped from ongoing canons, we ask that you pick a definite spot to start from, though you are welcome to add memories past that point when your canon progresses.

Character History
A brief summary of your characters history, just so the mods have at least a little background to go on. This section generally need be no longer than 300 words, and if it takes up more than an entire comment you have done it wrong.

Motivation
Basically, why this character would willingly agree to come to Sabra. What you write in here isn't set in stone, especially for ongoing canons, and doesn't have to be that SPECIFIC WISH, but show us you're thinking about it at the least!

Canon Personality
Can be a little longer than the history, if necessary.

Blank Personality
The most important section! Please explain what personality traits you believe your character will lose and retain upon arriving in Sabra La Tau and why. Analysis of why your characters do what they do, and how their memories shape those actions is necessary to give an acceptable answer to this section; simply listing how your character will act is not enough.

Some characters may act in an extremely similar fashion to their canon selves and some may act radically different. However, in either case, we want you to explain why. We want the players to chose for themselves what their character would be like sans memories, but unsupportable (or simply unsupported) answers will be rejected.

Writing Sample
Your character receives the recording that all Blanks receive upon awakening. Describe both the recording and your character's reaction in a ~300 word third-person sample. Yes, it may seem strange to have a third-person sample required in a first-person RP, however, this will give you a chance to show off your grasp of both the canon and Blank incarnation of your character. Don't worry about your purple prose or deadly allergy to adverbs; what we are looking for here is characterization and an interesting spin. Please also keep in mind what can and can't be in that video.

As a general rule of thumb, we tend to prefer apps that describe the Blanks' reaction to seeing themselves in the message over the ones that concentrate on the Blanks' reaction to the room or their own sense of confusion. Introspection is key! How would your Blank's reaction be different from other Blanks?

Reapping Dropped Characters

This app form is for those of you who have dropped a character and wish to pick that character back up. It is NOT for a player who wishes to app a character that someone else has dropped; those characters will use the normal app form and start over as a fresh Blank.

Character Name:

State before they left:
Give a brief description of the character's emotions/state of mind up to the point where they stopped being an active character.

IC day they were dropped:
Gives a good idea of how much IC time they've been away.

Destination:
Where were they, and, if they were with a judge, what was their time away like? For instance, if you went off to frolic with the Foreman, you spent time working just like he said! You were super happy and well fed. You feel like you had the springtime of your life but you really can't remember any of the details! Why? Because you were a giant cave ant at the time! You lucky dog. While it's not strictly necessary to go into much detail about your life as an ant, it makes Foreman conversations in the future more fun.

Reaction to their time away:
This section will vary depending on where your character ended up. Also, if you wish to reset your character and have them join a different unit, this is the place to let us know!
- If they were in the pillar, how will it affect your character to have been completely immobilized, in a semi-conscious state, for the aforementioned amount of time?
- If they were with the Foreman, they spent their time away as a GIANT ANT. What effects did their time away have on them? Mood improvement? Strength and constitution up? Just put on muscle weight? Regained health? Zen with the world?
- If they were with their unit's patron or otherwise away, how was it? What effects did or will it have on their physical and mental health?

Writing Sample:

The sheets were scratchy, and the blank frowned vaguely into them- scrunched his nose.

They smelled strange. Or rather, they did not smell the way they ought have, though he could not, in all honesty, have placed what they were meant to have smelled like, or how he knew.

The pillow was lumpy, too- a detail which he did not appreciate. He looked disapprovingly at it, an expression of wounded martyrdom on his face, before giving it an encouraging pat to attempt to work it into a shape more befitting an object of its intended purpose. It did not go- though that was, perhaps, the fault of whatever lay beneath it, for there was something beneath it, something solid and irregularly shaped, doubtless helping its efforts at being uncomfortable immeasurably.

He stuck one hand searchingly in its general direction- fished around until his fingers had found something cold and hard and decidedly un-pillowlike, and extended his frown to the new object, as well. A gleaming tube, with openings at either end. Small wonder the pillow had not been terribly successful.

He tipped the tube upside-down. Turned it sideways. Smelled it, to see if it was the source of whatever it was that the sheets smelled like.

And in the end, he put it to one eye- started briefly backward to see that a man stood within. He cut a grand figure, the blank rather thought, with sleek pale hair and glass-green eyes, dotted with jewelry and sumptuously dressed in a suit of blue and silver triangles.

“I suppose I shall have to manage,” said the man in the tube, with a dramatic sigh. The sleeves were long and scalloped; they hung down over his hands, ruffled as he gestured. It was a good effect. An impressive effect. “After all, I do this willingly.”

As simply as that, the image faded. It did not return when he gave the tube a little shake- could not be coaxed to say anything more when he rubbed the gleaming sides or the clear circles at either tip.

In the end, he took it with him when he went to see what lay on the other side of the door.

After all, a beginning with something was better than a beginning with nothing at all- and besides, if he intended to use the pillow again, it would be all the better for having nothing underneath it.

Dexter Morgan

[identity profile] violetsquirrel.livejournal.com (from insanejournal.com) 2009-12-13 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Dexter Morgan
Canon: Dexter (TV series)
Reference picture and Wiki link: Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_Morgan)
Point in the time-line taken: TENTATIVELY the end of season four (which will finish tomorrow). If for some reason that turns out to be a bad idea then the start of season four.

Character History: When Dexter Moser was three years old, his mother was hacked apart with a chainsaw in front of him. He was left to sit in her blood for days before he was found and adopted by police officer Harry Morgan. The experience left him detached from his emotions, and with an urge to kill. It didn't take long for Harry to realise something was wrong with his adoptive son, so like any good father he taught Dexter that there was a monster inside of him, and even though he would never be free of it he could channel it so as not to get caught. So Dexter spent his childhood and young adulthood learning how to be a serial killer and get away with it. Harry's code has many stipulations, one of the most important of which is to only kill people who themselves are killers.

Dexter made an excellent pupil, and based on Harry's teachings he has built up a public life for himself as a friendly blood spatter analyst, supportive big brother and loving boyfriend-turned-husband. Meanwhile he spends his free moments stalking and killing Miami's various killers. He's had to deal with a few shakeups, like discovering he had an older brother, Brian, who also witnessed their mother's death and had become a serial killer. He killed Brian rather than give in to his darkest urges and join him in the murdering of innocent people. He's also dealt with being under investigation for his murders and having an attempt to share his secret go awry enough to convince him he can never share it again.

His current biggest challenge is juggling marriage and a newborn son with trying to take out possibly the most successful serial killer in America.

Dexter Morgan

[identity profile] violetsquirrel.livejournal.com (from insanejournal.com) 2009-12-13 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality:
Dexter likes to tell the audience that he has no emotions and is empty inside, but this isn't exactly true. Inhuman would be a better description, as he has no empathy for humanity in general and doesn't really see himself as part of it. He can still feel all kinds of emotions like happiness, confusion, and occasionally fear. He even sometimes gets attached to individuals (like his sister Deb and his wife Rita) although in those cases he views his relationship with them selfishly. He's protective of them but he still values his own interests above theirs without even thinking about it and he's only just beginning to understand how he might compromise on that. His lack of empathy makes it difficult for him to comprehend the personalities of the people around him and why they act how they do, although when their motivations are made sufficiently obvious to him he can be good at manipulating people to suit his own ends.

Dexter's experiences as a young child have left him craving control, which mostly manifests itself in his urge to kill and the particular ritual of stalking and killing his victims that he performs about once per month. It also manifests itself in a great desire for privacy and the a love of categorising things neatly. That and some issues surrounding blood lead him to become a blood spatter analyst with the local police despite graduating top of his class from medical school.

The outward personality that most people see from him is an act developed to help him blend in and avoid suspicion. His internal monologue shows his dry amusement at the contrast between his constructed personality and his real personality. Despite the carefulness of his act however, he can't compensate for everything. Those closest to him know him as socially awkward and emotionally closed, even if they don't suspect the true nature of his personality.

Blank Personality:
Much of what drives Dexter to kill is rooted in the trauma he suffered as a child and has become an inextricable part of his personality, but in a way it was Harry who taught him to escalate his violence under controlled conditions and that he was a monster who could never change. Without the memories of his past he would still be detached and have violent urges, but they wouldn't have escalated to the point where he has to kill other humans.

Dexter also has no instinctual understanding of how people are meant to act. He had to be taught at length how to appear normal, and he won't have the benefit of any of that experience. He'll still have his intelligence, so he'll figure out the big rules that suit him fairly quickly (like how to work together to win competitions), but niceties and manners are likely to escape him unless he makes a real effort to learn them from the people around him.

On the other hand, without the memories of having been told he's an unfeeling monster his entire life, Dexter will be more open to the idea of having emotions when he does have them. He's unlikely to form strong relationships unless he sees a need to pretend to, but he won't be completely closed to the idea of it being possible.

Basically, Dexter will still have a similar personality to his actual personality, but he won't have quite as much of a fixation on being separate to humanity and he won't have as much of an urge to kill people. He'll still crave privacy and control, but he'll find it easier to adapt to not having these things since he doesn't know that he used to have them. He also won't see any reason to hide his real personality, although he might hide some of the darkest aspects for the sake of not being ostracised when he needs to work with others.

Writing Sample:
His eyes snapped open and he realised he was on his back on an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar room. Something was very, very wrong. He scrambled into a sitting position and surveyed the room carefully. Why was he here? He didn't remember going to sleep in a room like this. In fact... he didn't remember anything at all. At this point his musing was interrupted as his eyes fell on a small tube that was lying nearby. It seemed like the only thing notable about the room, so he picked it up and examined it. Brass? Some kind of metal, in any case.

Holding it up to one eye, he saw a grainy image. A man looked out at him with a calm expression and spoke confidently: "You can control it. Blend in. Don't get caught. I do this willingly." He waited to see if there was more, but the video simply repeated itself.

Strange. He examined the tube further, trying to find the source of the sound, but aside from the one opening it was smooth. Even more strange. But however it worked, clearly it had been left for him to find. Someone wanted him to work out the riddle, to figure out who he was and who the other man was. "I do this willingly" - not the words of the architect of such a situation. But whoever he was, the Blank knew he did not appreciate being manipulated, and he was not going to meekly play by the rules he'd been given. For all he knew, it had been given to him to keep him preoccupied from working out the real questions- who had done this to him and how he could escape.

Clutching the tube- heavy enough to make a potential weapon- he made for the door.

[Lady 1/2]

[identity profile] maryhadalilgun.insanejournal.com 2009-12-13 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Lady/ Mary

Canon: Devil May Cry

Reference picture and Wiki link: Ker-Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_in_Devil_May_Cry#Lady) and sexy portrait. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/Hermisia/dmc3chara-lady.jpg)

Point in the time-line taken: I abouts the middle of Devil May Cry 3

Character History:

Mary had a more-or-less normal childhood. She grew up in a life of privilege: living in what appears to be a mansion, going to a fancy private school with very cute uniforms, and so forth. Her father may have been a little distant, but hey, there are worse daddy issues to have.

Unfortunately, this is Devil May Cry, and families can't have nice things. That "distance" was really because her father had found a demonic manuscript, promising him power beyond his wildest dreams, if only he could divine its secrets. His first experiments were on changing humans into demons, a process which involved a number of quite literal skeletons in his closet, and questionable use of loli souls. It pretty much just got nastier from there, as he discovered that the catalyst he needed lay right in front of him: his wife and daughter. Unbeknownst to Mary, she and her mother were the descendants of a very old, very important priestess, which gave them unseverable ties to demonic power.

Capcom is kind of a bitch here, and failed to publish the manga that actually showed what events followed, but we get enough exposition to put the events together ourselves. As Mary watched, her father killed her mother, managing to give himself demonic power in the process. She he let live, having further plans for her. Having watched this, however, Mary basically lost it. In just a year, she goes from being a sweet little schoolgirl to a gun-toting demon hunter. She renounces her identity and becomes nameless, living only for the purpose of killing her father.

Canon Personality:

Mary and the nameless demon hunter are very, very different people. Again, because the manga was canceled, we don't get to see much of Mary first-hand, but what we do see of her is pretty telling. She's a genuinely sweet and warm girl. Whenever we see her, she's trying to help someone who needs it. She is also precocious and gutsy, not batting an eye at navigating seedy locales dressed as a school girl. Of course, she's nobody's perfect angel. She seems to enjoy pool with her drunk, under-aged friends, and is pretty willing to help a lost girl break into someone's house when she thinks it'll help said little girl out. The street-smarts she demonstrates are pretty impressive for her age and social standing--though it should be noted that she is still pretty easy to lie to. Basically, she can be summed up with big-sisterly with a touch of playful rebellion and rashness.

There is not much warm, nurturing or playful about Lady as we see her in the game. She has, by that point, been running on rage and grief for over a year. She seems to care about nothing but killing her father. "Nothing" here includes private property, her own life, and the life of anyone who so much as thinks about standing in her way. She has anger issues, is what I am saying here. Her rage is not an asset to her either; Mary's rash streak has become a near suicidal disregard for her own well-being. She trusts no one and she won't listen to reason. Until after she's killed her father, the only time we see her smile is while she's killing things.

Also! She is a Devil May Cry character through-and-though. This mean many things. First of all it means that she is sarcastic and prone to just unforgivably one-liners and impassioned speeches on the feelings in her soul. It also means that she is prone to violence like no one's business. Even later in the series where she plays the cool-headed foil, it's beyond easy to goad her into busting out the ol' rocket launcher anywhere from a crowded city street to a church. She loves to party, and many times the word "party" is synonymous with "violence."

[Lady 2/2]

[identity profile] maryhadalilgun.insanejournal.com 2009-12-13 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality:
Lady as a Blank will start out a very different person than the one who appears in the game. Without the memories of her father's betrayal, her mother's murder and all the time spent as a solitary demon-hunter, she will act a lot more like the Mary that we see briefly in the manga. In fact, I intend to at least base her personality mostly on what we see from Mary and how Lady acts after achieving her revenge against her father.

She'll go back to being more open and warm. Her big-sisterly streak will also be present. As someone who is naturally inclined to value family highly, she'll probably bond quickly with her unit and want to do her best for them. As in both forms, she's brave to the point of foolhardiness and doesn't take crap from anyone; that will be there too. Though she won't remember her toughness as Lady, it won't take her too long to fall into the role of a fighter. She may "feel" like a normal girl, but it'll be clear enough that she has the body of a warrior. She won't know it when she first wakes up, but she will still enjoy a good fight and has a rather generous helping of bloodlust.

As she starts to regain memories, this new Mary-type personality will be at odds with the memories of Lady. In the game, she works hard to keep her Mary side stuffed down, she likes to think of that part of her as "dead." Mary, to Lady, represents naiveté and weakness. Lady is a loner, but may not remember that until she's already gotten close to people. Having reverted to that state will bother her quite a lot when she remembers what it means. On the other hand, having spent time as open, loving Mary, she may be reluctant to sever those ties and go back to being alone.

Writing Sample:

"You've no name anyway," the thing in her hand had said, "Fight. Win. That's all that matters."

"Gee, thanks," she had replied, "how about saying something actually helpful?"

"You've no name anyway," the recording politely declined, "Fight. Win. That's all that matters." After considering for a moment and deciding she had no better ideas, the girl began to walk down the stony corridor before her.

As she walked, she did some more careful pondering of her current state, which really didn't actually help much at all either. If she knew one thing- which was debatable at this point- it was that last night had better have been one hell of a party for her to feel like this. What did a party have to do with waking up half-naked lying face down in a pool of water? No idea. Why did it happen near what was far and away the most distressing rock she had seen out of all the many, many rocks that she had seen since then? Couldn't help you there either! How did it make her head hurt? Nada. Hell, what was a party? All these questions and more, the girl had absolutely no answers to. Still, though, she could feel deep down that her first though must have been right. That all the signs of an awakening that really had to have been decently high up in the shitty-waking-up scale could only have been cased by this mysterious and illusive event she knew to be "a party."

Maybe it involved explosions. That seemed like something that would be both desirable and cause unfortunate mornings-after. She wasn't exactly sure what an explosion was, but just as her heart told her that headaches and memory loss were probably not all that bad if caused by a party, it told her too that explosions were pretty much always awesome. So hey, she did know something after all! Today was looking up already, wasn't it?

Mitani Wataru 2

(Anonymous) 2009-12-20 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality: Overall, Wataru won’t be that different without his memories; rather, he will likely revert back to how he was at the start of the movie, since no earlier memories would have had the same impact as the ones that happens after its start.

He’d be awkward and self-conscious again, and he probably would be even less likely to actually think through his actions before he goes through with them. He’ll also be very likely to judge people from his first impressions of them, and take what most people say as the absolute truth. While it is a given, thinking that they are Blanks, Wataru will be a lot more without direction, even after finding out about the rules and how Sabra work. It will take a lot before he once again realizes that it doesn’t help if you fix things around you if you don’t work on becoming happy yourself.

Another obvious thing is that of course he won’t be able to rely on being genre-savvy to come up with ideas to solve eventual problems.

Writing Sample:

The blank slowly started to awake; it was quite hard, after all, to try to sleep when something hard and uncomfortable was lying in your way. He was just rubbing the sleep from his eyes when-

The boy blinked, trying to take in the room before him. Then he blinked again, and as the realization hit him, his eyes went wide as saucers. This wasn’t his room.

The earlier sleepiness was gone in just seconds, and the speed at which he came out of the bed was quite impressive, indeed. The most constructive action that he managed aside from that, on the other hand, was gaping. A moment passed- and coming up with nothing better to do, his attention was turned back towards the object that had originally disturbed his sleep.

It was an odd tube-shaped object with a smooth surface, and the boy curiously found himself realizing that he had never seen anything like it before. He turned it over a few times, looked for any possible way to open it up, or any buttons to press, and found nothing. Carefully he tried hitting it against the side of the bed a few times to see if that would get any reaction. The sudden buzzing sound that came from the tube made the boy almost drop it with a yelp, only managing to catch it midair after it slipped out of his hands a second time.

Seeing that the sound seemed to come from inside, he peered at the glass part of the tube that he had ignored up until now, and he very nearly dropped it yet again when he saw what was inside it. ”There’s a boy trapped in there!” was his first thought.

And really there was, in a way. The boy in the tube seemed too focused on counting something on his fingers, mouth moving soundlessly, to notice the blank on the other end of the glass. Once the tube-boy got to ten, his nose wrinkled and it seemed like he had to start over again. Whatever he was counting didn’t seem to come out right this time either, so instead the boy suddenly faced him.

“It’s like a game! You’ll be fine, even if you d-“ there was a sharp buzz and whatever the rest the boy had tried to say he couldn’t hear. Instead the boy scratched the back of his head a bit embarrassed, “I do this willingly.”

And then the boy in the tube was gone just as soon as he had appeared, and the blank was left with a dumbfounded expression on his face.

“Hey, wait!” he shouted at the tube. “What do you mean a game? What are you doing willingly, where did you go?”

Still, no answer came from the now completely silent tube, no matter how many questions he asked. And then came the dawning realization that just hadn’t occurred to him until now… he knew as little about himself as he knew about the mysterious boy in the tube.

Mitani Wataru 1 (the real one!)

Character Name: Mitani Wataru
Canon: Brave Story (movie, mainly)
Reference picture and Wiki link: Wiki link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_Story) and picture (http://www.madman.com.au/wallpapers/brave_story_345_1680.jpg) (The boy in the middle)
Point in the time-line taken: After making his wish to the Goddess.

Character History: Mitani Wataru is your average eleven-year-old videogame obsessed boy living in the outskirts of Tokyo. His dad always works overtime and his mother is a bit overprotective, and the most exciting thing that seems to be happening is that there’s a rumour that the abandoned construction site is haunted and that the school has gotten a new transfer student. That is, until Wataru discovers that said transfer student can summon monsters and that apparently there’s a door to another world in the abandoned building- another world where you can get any one wish granted.

Of course, it turns out that Wataru needs that door very soon, because suddenly his world gets turned upside down when his dad leaves both him and his mom for another woman, and upon learning this his mom tries to commit suicide. Wanting his mother to get better and seeing no other way to get his family back together again, Wataru heads through the mysterious door and into the fantasy world of Vision. In Vision, Wataru starts his grand quest to find five magical gems that will lead him to the Tower of Destiny where he will be able to have his wish granted.

Canon Personality: While Wataru starts out wanting to bring his family back for his own reasons, during the course of the story he grows up a lot and realizes that he can’t expect someone else to fix his problems every time something sad happens to him. While he might start out a bit like an awkward and easily embarrassed (or embarrassing) boy, he grows into becoming someone who can stand up for himself and those that he believes in. And while he almost gives up a couple of times, towards the end he has the determination to pull through and finish his journey.

Still, throughout it all Wataru remains almost a bit too trusting for his own good and takes most things he encounters at face value. The fact that he expects the world to work like it's one of his videogames- or in worse cases like the dramas his mom always watches- probably both helps and hinders him.

In short though; Wataru is a very normal videogame obsessed eleven-year-old boy who acts ever so dumb, but oh so adorable.

Point in the time-line taken: After his death
Character History:

Born into the ruling class, Logos, Jin was the only son of Counselor Tsurusawa, a powerful politician. For a while, his future seemed rosy, but when he was in his teens, his father's political enemies brought the Counselor to ruin, and he committed suicide, causing Jin's easy world to crash down. In a desperate ploy to place himself on a track back to power, Jin enlisted in the military, and applied for the elite special unit, Phantom. On starting training, he met Jo, the man who would become his partner for training and the difficult tryouts. Both of them were highly talented and skilled, and made the cut to join Phantom. For five years, they were the 'golden boys' of Phantom, an unstoppable team of some of the best the unit had to offer. However, Jin never forgot his objective; greater and greater power. When a chance arose in the form of a girl named Sana who carried sought-after secrets in her genetics, he seized his chance and defected from Phantom, accompanied by the ever-faithful Jo, to steal Sana away.

Eventually his quest for power brought him back to Phantom, having acquired the information and leverage he needed from Sana, trading on that information to become the vice-commander of Phantom, and in the process betraying the two people who loved and trusted him the most - and without a hint of remorse. His desire eventually leads him to a battle to the death against Jo.

Canon Personality:

Jin is a sociopath. He knows how people tick, and he uses them to his advantage. He believes himself to be emotionless, and considers it a positive trait; he believes it makes him stronger. However, he also realizes that it's important to pretend that he's normal; he deliberately attempts to appear polite and caring to the people he wants to use, making them believe him to be trustworthy and morally upright. However, his kindness is all an act, and directly proportional to how much use someone can be to him. All he desires is power, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

His sanity, such as it is, isn't entirely stable, and he has issues stemming from his first encounter with Jo that gives him a strong need to prove himself 'better' than Jo; he's done this for years by being the dominant partner in their relationship, but eventually circumstances force him to attempt to satisfy the desire by trying to defeat Jo in combat.

Immediately prior to his death, he experiences sorrow and fear for the first time. Any long-term effect on his personality by having experienced this is unknown, since . . . he died, but since he considers emotionlessness to be strength, he would likely seek greater strength, to regain his former self, and go into denial about what he felt, while remaining haunted by the sheer terror that he experienced.

Blank Personality:

Jin's personality as a Blank would be very similar to his canon personality. He would retain his sociopathic nature, which was not developed as a result of trauma, but simply something he was born with. Without his memories of his father, he would be both less skilled at manipulating others through their emotions and at acting as though he has them, but he wouldn't lose all skill in that area, since he has a natural talent for it, and until someone impressed upon him the need to appear normal, he wouldn't even particularly try. Once he does try, his false personality will lack polish and be easier to see through.

Without the memory of his father's ruin and suicide, he would be less power-hungry; he still innately considers himself to be better than others, but won't realize what he had and what he lost, and want to regain it, until he gets the appropriate memories back. He would not immediately recognize himself as emotionless, but since he rarely feels anything, he would quickly reach that conclusion again, unless a memory that proves him wrong was won quickly.

His sanity is a little more stable as a Blank, but he could still be triggered by great losses into an unstable state where he would become more violent and loud, and less caring of how others saw him.

Writing Sample:

Waking brought the Blank awareness of being, but nothing else; the ceiling above him was unknown, the feeling of the pillow under his head and the clothes on his body, unfamiliar. Quickly, he rolled out of the bed and crouched on the floor as he scanned the small room. Nothing was familiar at all. Hangings on the walls, a shelf with a pile of cloth on it, and a door. Quietly he crept over to the last, then flattened himself against the wall and listened intently. No noise met his ears and he allowed himself to relax, then began to methodically tear the room apart, searching for some clue, some sign, of where he was. Who he was. The realization that he didn't even know that should have been disturbing, he thought, and yet it wasn't. He pulled the cloth off the shelf, finding it to be clothes which, at a glance, proved to be the same as the ones he was wearing. A knife lay under them, and he claimed that, pleased to have found a weapon. He replaced the clothing neatly on the shelf and moved on to the bed.

As he pulled the bedsheets free, something clinked tinnily onto the floor. He snatched it up - a small metal tube, incongruous to the surroundings. Something like that didn't belong in a bed, he was almost certain. A bed was for sleeping, and a tube was . . . well, he wasn't sure what, but it probably wasn't also for sleeping. He examined the tube carefully; the polished metal reflected the dim, warped shape of his face, but it was too indistinct to make out; not something for personal inspection, then. Next, he peered inside it. His casual inspection sharpened at what he saw.

Inside the tube, a tiny picture of a man in a chair hovered in front of his eyes. The man had messy white hair; the Blank thought he could see golden eyes, but they were indistinct, difficult to make out. All he could determine was that they seemed somehow haunted. The man sat there for a moment - if he hadn't blinked, the Blank would have thought that this was all there was to it. But blink the man did, and as the Blank continued to watch, hoping to see something more, he began to speak in a smooth, confident voice. "I'll gain it; I'll gain it and he'll see. I do this willingly." The picture wavered, then the man blinked, and repeated the same words again.

The Blank lowered the tube, staring at the wall without really seeing it. Was this man the one who had put him here? Was he the 'he' referenced? Well. Perhaps he would see. Or perhaps the one to see would be that one, that man in the tube. He had no intentions of coming out of whatever this was on the bottom of the heap. Whatever the prize, it would be his.

Character Name: Jo Katsuragi
Canon: Innocent Venus
Reference picture and Wiki link: WIKI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Innocent_venus) and PICTURE (http://www.animint.com/encyclopedie/dossiers/image/i/innocentvenus/jo.jpg)
Point in the time-line taken: End of series o/

Character History: Innocent Venus can very much be summed up as "Sana and her two daddies take a road trip on the run from the government oh shit." Jo is one of these two daddies! Once upon a time he was a government soldier doing government soldier stuff like killing and getting his joy sucked out of him through death and despair. He pretty much became emotionally constipated to the point of being able to lock them all down appearing empty and slightly sociopathic (in terms of lack of regret, etc). And he met Jin, who gave him direction and orders and Jo was pretty much "Okay, I guess I'll model my life as following Jin's orders."

Basically, Jin was the brains and Jo was the brawn. This included following Jin's command to steal a government project created child and going on the run. It's pretty unfortunate for Jo that Jin turned out to be a revenge seeking psychopath who didn't really care that much for the government project created child or Jo himself. This took a betrayalful stab in the gut to sink home.

Despite his emotional repression, Jo was actually pretty moral and went up against his formal-friend in an epic mecha duel. Jo won, and then decided to wander a bit and find more of his somewhat newly discovered self.

Canon Personality: Jo is, as mentioned above, pretty repressed. He's the stoic strongman. He doesn't expression his emotions much for most of the series, and he doesn't talk much. Jin says jump and Jo doesn't even have to ask how high, he just does it.

You could say that he's pretty purposeless and he's part of a government soldier group which only sociopaths are part of. Which, he really isn't a sociopath as he can feel his emotions but he's so far divorced from them that even he doesn't recognize this.

He's basically the best attack dog/puppy. Devoted, loyal, silent and strong. He doesn't question things and goes as far to say things like "If Jin hates them, then so do I. That's all I know." But underneath it all he has a strong moral center and a buried sense of self/what's right.

[identity profile] n____n.insanejournal.com 2009-12-20 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality: Without his memories Jo would be far less of an empty person. The bleak future (Innocent Venus is post world-cataclysmic event) and lack of remembering his army days would leave him more clear headed. He'd still be a huge puppy, but without that deeply repressed side.

He'll be a bit like his end of series self in that he'll be more in touch with his feelings and be able to act on them. He'll be friendly! And he'll be protective. While he won't be a leader he will take more initiative for himself.

Something that defines Jo, even underneath all of that emotional repression in canon, is that he has a large capacity for compassion. So, without his memories that will come more to the front of his emotional spectrum.

Writing Sample: He had woken with absolutely nothing on his mind. It had been almost pleasant to lay there, feeling nothing and remembering nothing. And then the unease had settled in, he couldn't even remember his name. When he looked down at himself he didn't recognize the clothes he wore, and even the sight of the sheets on the bed surprised him.

Eventually he had found the brass tube. He had been reluctant to look through it, after a few minutes of mental debate (should he, shouldn't he, did it really matter?) he put one end to his eye.

A young man was standing there, his expression flat, even his eyes looked empty. There was a pause, and then the young man said, "You know what you want, now. Stay with --" the young man looked away, as if something had distracted him. When he started speaking again his voice was softer, "I do this willingly."

The brass thing was set down. There was something unpleasant about that, even if he couldn't put his finger on what. He looked around the room again, because there was something missing. But again, he didn't know exactly what. Despite not knowing what he was looking for (and not finding it) it took a long time to rouse himself to leave the room.

As he headed for the door he had to stop and look back at the bed he had woken up in. The brass tub sat there as well, and he debated taking it with him. You know what you want, now. Stay with -- what did that even mean? Stay with what? And what did he want? Maybe someone else would know. That in mind he opened the door and exited the room.

Luna Lovegood 1

[identity profile] heiltothelord.insanejournal.com 2009-12-20 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Luna Lovegood
Canon: Harry Potter
Reference picture and Wiki link: Go Here
Point in the time-line taken: After book/movie 7, but before the epilogue.

Character History:
Luna was born to a pair of wizards, and raised knowing that one day she'd go to Hogwarts. Her mother was killed by a wayward spell in front of her when she was nine. From then on, her father raised her by himself, instilling his own, special values into her. Her father is the editor for the Quibbler, a magazine which publishes stories about the amazing and unbelievable. It's basically the wizard version of The Enquirer. Set in modern-day Europe, Luna was nevertheless raised largely separate of what we would consider normal human society, living instead in a world of magic. Nearly everything in life can be accomplished through magic. Little is known about her early childhood.

Though intelligent enough to be sorted into Ravenclaw, Luna is a little... Weird, and was often picked on. The same age as Ginny Weasley, she met Harry Potter at Hogwarts. Throughout the course of the books, Luna is one of the few characters that believes in Harry no matter what, and is one of Harry's closest friends. She fights side-by-side with the three main characters, and despite battling against fully grown, well-trained, and experienced wizards, she does well, defeated but not destroyed. Throughout the course of the books, she never falls into the trap of being a damsel in distress. Even when kidnapped by Death Eaters hoping to manipulate her father, Luna remains calm, and goes out of her way to comfort the adult who is trapped with her.

Canon Personality:
In canon, Luna is very calm and serene. It's hard to get a rise out of her, because she doesn't really get ruffled by much of anything. This isn't to say that she doesn't feel strongly about things, because she often has very strong feelings and beliefs, but she does not tend to express them in ways that most people do. She ignores teasing and most negativity, preferring her own little world to outside people. When bad things happen to her, as they often do, she tends to roll with them instead of attempting to change what is going on around her. She accepts people as they are, even if they are not nice to her. This extends to other parts of her life too. She believes everything she reads in the Quibbler and has an active imagination. For the most part she seems to wander around in what is almost a fog, observing what is going on around her without feeling a need to participate in most social activities.

Luna Lovegood 2

[identity profile] heiltothelord.insanejournal.com 2009-12-20 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality:
As a blank, Luna would continue to be incredibly serene. It would still be difficult to get a rise out of her, no matter what happens. However, she will tend to have more faith in people, as she doesn't have the memories of so many people ignoring and teasing her. She will continue to be very intelligent and very imaginative, and will turn her imagination towards recreating her memories from the very beginning. Once she has decided something it will be very hard to convince her otherwise. Her eccentricities will continue, only getting worse as she gets more memories. Though she will bond with her team quickly, outward proof of such bonding may be hard to come by. In all likelihood, most people won't even realize she has feelings for them at all.

Writing Sample:
She woke up slowly, unsure of where she was. It didn't seem familiar, but then, she couldn't really recall what would seem familiar. Therefore, it simply was, and there certainly wasn't any changing the things that 'were' after all. Of that she was quite sure. Here, there were four walls, a floor, a ceiling, a bed, and some other furniture. It was enough to make her happy. After all, she had a place to sleep, and provided that the door she saw opened, she was sure she would find food. Shelter was important, that she knew.

She wondered how she knew that, and then dismissed it. Obviously, even without knowing anything that had happened previously, some things were simply too important to be without. Apparently, however, names were not important. She certainly couldn't remember hers. She was sure that she'd been called something before. Before... whatever this was. Or perhaps not. Perhaps she'd burst forth, whole and developed from the very rock itself, giving birth to a new generation of Rock Sprites (for surely that is what she was) and passing the old into antiquity. That made sense, she decided.

Standing up, she heard the metallic sound of something hitting the floor. She picked it up, unsure for a moment what it was for. After some trial and error, though, she looked into one end. There was a girl on the other end, and she could hear the girl talking. "Nothing lasts forever! Do your best! I do this willingly."

It ended. She stared for a moment, then shrugged. There must be other people here, and perhaps even ones who didn't live in tubes. What would be a good name for a Rock Sprite? Rocketta, perhaps? Rocketta Stone. From now on, she would be Rocketta Stone. With a small smile, she headed for the door. She was looking forward to meeting all the other creatures here.

Kiryuu Zero (1/-)

(Anonymous) 2009-12-29 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
Your Name: Joan
Journal (IS or LJ): lj: lilorchid1023
Email Address: himejima(at)gmail.com

Character Name: Kiryuu Zero

Canon: Vampire Knight

Reference picture and Wiki link: ref photo (http://www.pink-ichigo.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/vk2.jpg) and link (”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Vampire_Knight_characters#Zero_Kiryu”)

Point in the time-line taken: Taken shortly after the Rido fight, having eaten his twin brother, killed a pureblood and determined Yuuki to be a vampire as well. End of Chapter 46.

Character History: The name Kiryuu is synonymous with vampire hunters in his canon society, o it’s no surprise that even as a young boy, Zero was trained to be a hunter as well. All was well and good until a very powerful vampire decided to exact revenge upon his family for killing her lover, thus massacring Zero’s parents and his twin brother(sort of; spoiler: he’s not really dead) and biting Zero, thus turning him into a vampire as well. He then gets adopted by the headmaster of a school that houses both humans and vampires, and has to lead a double life of trying to deal with his duties of being a vampire hunter, and the fact that he craves for blood.

Canon Personality:
The guy is a walking poster child for emo. Zero hates himself for being the thing he despises the most (vampire) and often has suicidal tendencies about offing himself if he gives into his bloodlust. Because of this, he tends to be reserved and more withdrawn. He takes his role as a vampire hunter very seriously, and considers it his first and foremost priority above all things. When needing to interact with others, he’s very bitter and harsh, if not a little awkward. Zero is very perceptive, both due to the training he received as a kid and also an innate ability He does have a kinder side to him, which most people never really get to see. He can be very protective and worrying about others he cares about. A large part of what he has to deal with is his constant growing need for blood, to which his closest friend and almost-romantic partner, Yuuki Cross, offers herself to him. He does drink from her, but is constantly guilty over inflicting harm towards her, and not having stronger willpower to deal with his hunger.

Blank Personality:
Basically, his tragic past with the vampire massacre is the key turning point that influences canon Zero, so having his memories of that event erased would make how he is very different. He’s lived a large chunk of his life hating vampires, and not having that over his head would be a relief, almost, to live like a normal boy. I imagine Zero would be a lot friendlier towards others, more trusting. Definitely less suicidal and more prone to smiling than in canon. A nice guy. As a child, he was naturally perceptive about people and things, and I believe it’s a trait he would keep because canonly it’s a trait that his family is known for, and even as a child he was already sharper than his parents. He will also be more softhearted, kinder towards others. It seems to be more of Zero’s default before the incident. There are several examples in canon: there was a prophecy about twin vampire hunters and that the stronger fetus would eat the other in the womb, which… Zero didn’t. He let his brother live, and continued to watch over him constantly. Also, while he was in his younger training days, Zero tried to defend a suspected vampire school nurse from being killed. Unfortunately, he learned the hard way that she really was a vampire and she gouged out his teacher’s eye.

He is still a vampire though, so there are some… ingrained traits, which is mostly the hunger. He wouldn’t know what it is as first, but it is a hurdle he would have to deal with as a Blank.

Kiryuu Zero (2/2)

(Anonymous) 2009-12-29 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Writing Sample:

He woke up with a start, heart pounding so loudly he could practically hear it. “A bad dream,” he muttered to himself… but of what he couldn’t quite remember. Nor could he recall what he was doing here, or where here was exactly. He felt a slight twinge of panic settling in, and quickly scanned around the unfamiliar surroundings, not really sure what he was looking for. His fingers suddenly brushed upon something cold and metallic just beside his pillow, which started to play a deep murmuring sound as he did. Eyeing it warily before picking it up, he decided to take a closer look.

“Don’t give in. You’re stronger than that. Be careful.” Gazing into that eyepiece, he watched a young man with a distinctive tattoo on his neck speaking at him, stoic and stern eyes staring as if trying to bore a hole through one’s skull. The figure nodded slightly, before adding, “I do this willingly.”

He gripped the metal tube and looked down in his hands... where the shiny surface revealed to him a strange revelation. A familiar face stared back. That… was him. The figure speaking to him inside that tube was himself, leaving some sort of a message. A confusing one at that. Frustrated, he looked around the surroundings, frowning as he tried to make sense of things. What exactly would make him do this?

At the very least he wasn’t going to learn anything just sitting here. He stood up, heading for the door. He could hear voices from the other side, and picked up a sweet scent that was strangely enticing. All the more to figure out what was going on.

Jack / Tyler Durden part 1/3

[identity profile] victorisham.insanejournal.com 2009-12-31 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: He doesn't get a canon name! However, the director and fandom refer to him as Jack. His alternate personality's name is Tyler Durden.
Canon: Fight Club (movie)
Reference picture and Wiki link: Reference picture (http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/ellidnn/No%20Disintegrations/Dorky%20Comic%20News/ednorton.jpg) and wiki link! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight_Club_%28film%29)
Point in the time-line taken: After the end of the movie.

Character History: Jack was born to a middle-class family white collar America. His father left him and his mother when he was only six. His only real sense of direction in life was 1. go to college (important! because his father didn't), 2. get a job, and 3. get married. He did the first two and, at thirty years old, never accomplished the last. As he works, though, he starts having trouble sleeping; insomnia plagues him for a six-month-long stretch. The only way he eventually finds relief is going to support groups for diseases he doesn't have-- people cry on his shoulder, he cries on theirs, he imagines that he sleeps like a baby!

In reality, though, in the weeks leading up to his meeting with Tyler Durden, he doesn't sleep. He gets night jobs as a film reel handler (splices frames from porno into kid movies) and a waiter at a fancy hotel, under the persona of Tyler Durden. He establishes himself as a soap-maker and rents out a dilapidated house under Jack's real name, while Jack remains oblivious. Before a business trip, Tyler Durden blows up Jack's apartment and then "meets" Jack on a plane -- in reality, Jack talking to himself. When Jack arrives at his condo and sees it in a burning mess, he's forced to call himself and ask for a place to stay.

With Tyler, Jack creates Fight Club. A place where any two men can brawl it out for as long as they need, it seems to be what Jack was looking for his entire life; but Tyler steps it up a notch, creating the pseudo-terrorist group, Project Mayhem. Made up of his own private army, they terrorize corporate buildings and threaten people to keep the heat off them. It eventually causes one of Jack's friends who joined Project Mayhem is killed by a cop in one of their attacks, leaving the members confused when their own leader tells them off for doing what he ordered them to do as Tyler Durden. Jack only figures it out after many of the Mayhem members call him boss, Tyler, Mr. Durden-- and Tyler's own girlfriend calls him it. He realizes it too late to stop the bombing of ten different credit card buildings, but is able to rid himself of his alter-ego. Jack shoots himself in the head non-fatally while Tyler Durden dies a metaphorical death.

Jack / Tyler Durden part 2/3

[identity profile] victorisham.insanejournal.com 2009-12-31 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality: Jack is a self-described thirty-year-old child. Most of all, though, he's a cynic. He sees the world through the jaded lens of someone who lacks any sort of direction in his life, spurred on by the emptiness of consumer America. And this shows; he's not a cheerful person in any sense of the word. He doesn't let most of his bleak view of humanity show, though. Whatever bad thoughts he has about his boss, he doesn't voice; he suppresses any thought that doesn't fit into a regular value system. He keeps his true thoughts to himself and never really does anything with his bleak view. Even when confronted with someone similar to him, he loathes her and pushes her away; he unconsciously realizes that she reflects him and his ideals. Meeting her drives him to create Tyler Durden.

Tyler Durden is a very different side of the same coin. He's everything Jack wishes he could be; he's smarter, smoother, hotter, fucks better, is capable, and -- most of all -- is free. He shares the same bleak view of humanity as Jack, but isn't restrained to the same social code. Jack suppresses his feelings and hardly ever says what he means. On the other hand, Tyler is blunt and up-front with everything. He's braver, as well, easily shedding the need to adhere to the value systems that Jack finds so necessary. He is Jack's source of strength, even when he doesn't realize that they're the same person. When he gets the courage to threaten his boss, he calls it "Tyler's words coming from my mouth". Tyler brings Jack to places, even if he has to be dragged kicking and screaming into them.

When viewed from this outside, this relationship is very strange. Some times, it's Jack imagining that he's observing Tyler's actions. Other times, it's Jack talking to Tyler in public -- one man talking to an empty space. How this is perceived and reacted to by sane people definitely has an effect on Jack, mostly when he doesn't realize that Tyler is the same person. He reacts with hostility to any person accusing him of Tyler's actions, not realizing that he did them -- but with the realization, he takes responsibility for all of it.

Blank Personality: Jack without his memories would, again, be a different side of the same coin. His base personality would remain the same, though. He would remain a cynic and keep the tendency to suppress his feelings and thoughts. He won't be a doer, to say the least. He would be cheerier at first, without the memories of constant depression of his real, but would be less so once he grasps the full reality of the situation. He'll revert back to his pessimism, but it won't be as bad as his canon personality; it won't have the years of emptiness behind it.

Tyler would quickly make a reappearance as soon as Jack gained a memory of him, driven on by the feeling of powerlessness Jack would have in Sabra la Tau. This version of Tyler would have less of the anti-consumerism views, without Jack's memories to fuel them, more focued on getting Jack into a leading role -- or at least one where he felt more powerful, in a similar way to Fight Club and Project Mayhem. Anything Jack doesn't have the balls to do in Sabra, Tyler will roll with it and do it for him -- as crazy as it may look to the rest of Jack's team to have the sudden personality shift.

Writing Sample:

Waking up was normal, he guessed.

So was rolling out of bed -- literally; something in him had decided to overshoot the mark, landing him on his back on the floor with his blanket half-wrapped around him. Not that he could remember if it was normal, he decided, laying in that uncomfortable position for several minutes. Maybe he could just stay there and eventually his brain would sort itself out. That would be nice.

But nothing happened. So he - whoever this "he" might have been - decided to check the fairly uncomfortable his back had landed on rather abruptly. That was normal, too, he supposed. Waking up on things. He could start there and work his way forwards. He arched his back enough so that he could bend his arm and work his hand underneath it, grabbing the hard lump and pulling it out. It was a brass tube, he realized as he relaxed again. He brought one end closer for inspection, looking through it. Tube was normal? Check.

Except that he jumped (as much as he could, still sprawled on the ground) when someone started speaking to him through it. It startled him enough to drop it; when he brought it up to his eye again, a beleaguered-looking man in a half-buttoned shirt was staring back at him and talking. " -- for her. I do this willingly." Then it replayed. "This will be better for her. I do this willingly."

Okay, so whatever "this" was? It was normal, too. And there was obviously someone female he cared about enough to do whatever "this" was for. That was normal, he hoped, too. Right. He could figure this out.

Except that none of this made any sense still. He couldn't remember anything, and assuring himself that everything was normal wasn't quite working out like he had hoped it would. Sighing, he finally untangled himself from his blankets and groggily stepped towards the door. Maybe whoever "her" was would explain everything to him the moment he stepped outside.

Probably not.

Zuko [2/3]

[identity profile] redirectdestiny.insanejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Zuko
Canon: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Reference picture and Wiki link: Picture (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/avatar/images/4/4f/Zuko-sword.png) & Wikia Link (http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Zuko).
Point in the time-line taken: Post-Series
Character History:
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is set in an Asian influenced fantasy world in which the Avatar needs to defeat the evil Fire Lord and Save The World! Before the start of the series, Zuko— the Fire Lord's only son— has been banished from his homeland. In order to regain his honor (HONOR!), he must capture the Avatar who disappeared a hundred years ago. Luckily for him, after only two and half years of searching, the Avatar resurfaces and the plot is on.

Zuko repeatedly tries to capture the Avatar through a variety of locales. However, after a lot of failures (and a good dose of Fire Nation politics), he is branded as a traitor to his home country. Unwilling to be taken prisoner, Zuko flees. Now fugitives, Zuko and his uncle disguise themselves as refugees and even adopt simple lifestyles. For a while, it seems as if Zuko has found peace in his new role, however, the universe doesn't let him off that easily.

Eventually, Zuko is forced to make the ever so crucial decision between good and evil. He chooses evil— attacking the Avatar— and fulfilling his father's wishes. Having redeemed himself, Zuko is welcomed home. However, he finds his return strangely unfulfilling. He's uncomfortable in his skin, angry and disappointed in himself. After even more conflicted soul searching, Zuko confronts his father and declares he's going to join the Avatar. From there, he manages to convince the Avatar's group that he's "good" this time (for real) and does his part to help Save The World.

Ultimately, Zuko succeeds his father as king Fire Lord, anyway. He just took the long way around.

Zuko [3/3]

[identity profile] redirectdestiny.insanejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality:
Zuko's role changes considerably through the course of the series and his personality changes along the way. Ultimately, Zuko's journey is that of self discovery and self acceptance. Over the course of the series, he begins to look inward— finding value in how he sees himself— rather than focusing on how others perceive him. But first he has to make his way through a lot of teenage angst and confusion.

How Zuko acts ultimately depends on what his overall temperament is at the moment. If Zuko has a mission, he'll be single minded and determined. He'll go after an appointed task without reservation and won't be dissuaded. Although clever, he isn't the best when it comes to forward planning. He'll act on half formed ideas, believing (or hoping) that he'll figure the rest as he goes.

If Zuko is aimless, then he's prone to bitterness and restlessness as he struggles to find a purpose. It's not really in him to be relaxed. However, when Zuko is at peace with himself and the world, he's content— probably the closest he ever gets to being happy. Although not exactly friendly and full of sunshine, he does lose a lot of his anger and temper. Of course this only happens once Zuko figures out what he wants— which takes him the entire series.

Despite his varying personality, there are some distinct character traits that show up. In general, Zuko is almost always serious and doesn't have much of a sense of humor. He has a short temper which can explode in indignant or incredulous rage. He's frequently demanding and impatient. He's not ruthless or cruel and his outbursts are best described as temper tantrums. Zuko also has a strong sense of personal honor but usually not enough conviction in himself. He rarely lies and when he does it's not meant to be manipulative. With his peers, Zuko is also socially awkward even at the best of times.

Blank Personality:
In Sabra, Zuko's personality will depend on his interactions with others and the memories he receives. His personality will be shaped by the people around him. Which is not to say that he's easily influenced but he'll need to walk down a few paths before he can truly form his own opinion. What he thinks he desires might not actually be what he truly wants. At first there will probably be long moments where he sits against the wall and broods. He has a predisposition for both good and evil so it's a matter of who gets to him first.

However, one notable difference in Sabra is that Zuko won't have the put upon angst of feeling like the universe is conspiring against him since things start out relatively even in Sabra. He won't remember all his trials and turmoils he's been through (unless he somehow manages to get a bad run in Sabra too.) He won't be as defensive and standoffish unless something happens to ding his ego and make him feel like he has to put on a brave and confident front.

Ultimately, Zuko will have to find his own purpose, accept his own morals and then have confidence in hiself. In short, he's going on the journey of self discovery. Again.

Writing Sample:
The first thing the Blank did was take stock of his surroundings. The room was unfamiliar and the trappings seemed all wrong. He tried to recall the last thing he remembered, then scowled when nothing came to mind. He was on his feet, stalking the length of the small room. There was nothing notable about it, save for a small object on the bed.

Angrily, he snatched it up and held it to his right eye as if it were a telescope. Inside, there was an image of a person— not a telescope after all. The man awkwardly raised one hand, attempted a smile, lowered his hand, then frowned. The Blank frowned in response. What was the point of this?

After a moment more, the man in the tube let out a deep breath, then held his head high. "I know who I am and nothing will change that. I do this willingly." There was a pause, then the figure stalked off out of view.

The Blank frowned and pulled the tube away from his face. "Great," the Blank muttered. He flopped down on the bed, still holding the tube in one hand. "How is that supposed to help me?"

Seki Ray Shiroe, reapp

[identity profile] bymyfriends.insanejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Seki Ray Shiroe
Previous Unit: Monoceros

State before entering the pillar:
Most of all Shiroe was frustrated and annoyed with how things were. He realized almost from the start that you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere in Sabra without the team, so he decided to try his best to get along with them. He never really made any effort beyond “getting along with” though, and had trouble actually connecting with the team. At the same time, he had deemed all other teams (bar Orion), to be untrustworthy and not worth the time, basically shutting off people he could have gotten along with if he wasn’t so stubborn.

A huge part of the frustration came from also not really being able to win many games. Since he’s extremely competitive, every loss was a bad one for him, and it didn’t help strengthen the faith he had in his team. Basically it made him feel like he was standing stomping the ground in one place without being able to get anywhere. He also had little grasp on who he actually was, since the only memory he had was a trivial one that told him practically nothing about himself. Overall he felt like he had absolutely no control over the situation, what with there being no one he could put the blame on and get away with it.

Amount of time in the pillar: Since Day 84, how long will depend on when slots open up. But at least 2 weeks.

Reaction to having been in the pillar:
Shiroe will not have taken being in the pillar well at all. He normally hates not being in control or not being able to decide over himself, and the pillar leaves him unable to do anything. Basically any free will would have been taken from him and there would have been absolutely nothing he could do about it, not even attempt to just die or sleep. It wouldn’t take long for him to start panicking on whatever level that is possible while semi-conscious.

So what does this mean for the future? Basically Shiroe’s sense of self and time completely tipped over; he’ll have no idea how long he’s been in there and he’ll have trouble just grasping the concept of days passing when he gets back. Worse he just had one memory when going in, and the pillar kind of shattered his sense of self since that memory didn’t really tell him something about who he is. So he’s going to be incredibly lost, confused and desperate for more memories as he’s afraid of building up a self that isn’t really himself. He’ll probably also be too scared to show this side to anyone other than Monoceros, and might act positively acid towards other people, especially if they find out. Of course a lot would also depend on what kind of reception he’d get from Monoceros when he comes back, but it should be a largely positive one. If it is; he’s also likely to become very easily influenced by the rest of the team.

He’ll also cling even harder to the memory of reading the peter pan book than he did before, and he’ll want it back as soon as possible as a security blanket since the only thing that probably prevented him from snapping while in the pillar was going over the contents of the book. He might also try to find expy’s for the characters in the book among the people in Sabra.

Also nightmares! He’ll be having a hard time sleeping for months after getting out of the pillar and will keep having nightmares about the pillar he might try to push onto others. It’ll also be close to impossible to get him to go anywhere near the pillar or even the caves for a long, long time and into closed spaces in general. He’d also be unlikely to ever be completely still and will probably at least be moving his hand even if he’s just standing around and having a conversation with someone, just to make sure, that yes, he’s still able to.

Lastly, while his psychic powers would have been locked down while in the pillar (I'm assuming this is okay? Since he would be unplayable if his mind got shattered), the mental stress of being in there coupled with the chock of coming out of the pillar would probably awaken them, even if he would have no idea how to use them still.

Tokitoh Minoru

(Anonymous) 2010-01-23 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Tokitoh Minoru

State before entering the pillar: Prior to entering the pillar Tokitoh had been missing for almost 20 days in an extended exploration of the caves and attempt to get out. He was starved and delirious, and doesn't remember much of the tail end of this time. The clearest recent event to him would've been somewhere in the area of day 38, he entered the pillar on day 57.

Amount of time in the pillar: 43 days

Reaction to having been in the pillar: Being well experienced with PTSD Tokitoh's reaction to his time in the pillar will essentially be SUPPRESS SUPPRESS SUPPRESSSS. He will occasionally have nightmares or recall vague snatches of things, but if pressed regarding his time in the pillar he'll likely flip out and go into a state of shock. If it comes up in casual conversation he'll likely just say that he doesn't remember a thing, as his most recent clear memories of Sabra are from around day 40-something when he went exploring.

Johnny Rayflo

[identity profile] andredallover.insanejournal.com 2010-01-30 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Your Name: Aviy
Journal (IS or LJ): Aviy @ lj
Email Address: aviychan@gmail.com

Character Name: Johnny Rayflo
Canon: Vassalord
Reference picture and Wiki link: Wiki and pic
Point in the time-line taken: Most recent canon
Character History: Once upon a time, Rayflo was a respected, well loved knight of an unknown nation, serving a young, doll-like princess, until war threatened to destroy his home and he strayed from piety to make a deal with a demon.

Such is how Rayflo became an immortal vampire. What he did immediately after that is yet unclear, but it's safe to say the demon that turned him took great joy in torturing him for quite a while, until Rayflo was less surefire and honorable and more cranky and disillusioned. Some years later he was found drinking the blood of soldiers in a crumbling church by a young orphan boy. He threatened to eat the boy, but ended up giving him bread, and you know what they say about once you feed a stray... In the end Rayflo adopted the kid, and for a month or so was effectively his father. He fed him, cleaned him, clothed him, cut his hair, read him stories, gave him a name. It was all super adorable, and succeeded in restoring some of Rayflo's damaged heart. But in the end, a vampire isn't really cut out to be a dad, and he dropped the kid off at a nearby church so that he could be raised right and have a good life.

For his part, Rayflo apparently decided to become a priest, and while not a lot is known about the intervening years, it seems like he spent some time cleaning up the mess of his past. When the young boy found him again, he was a strapping young adult, some things happened, and on the verge of death the boy begged Rayflo not to let him die.

Which is basically how you start a story about two vampires that hit the gay, father/son, master/student, and blood drinking kinks all at once. In the end, Rayflo and his student live together, kill evil vampires, and have a lot of very sketchy blood drinking, and Rayflo fails to talk about things like how that demon is still around, periodically raping out his spine.

Re: Johnny Rayflo

[identity profile] andredallover.insanejournal.com 2010-01-30 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality: Like most people, it varies depending on whether or not he's recently been mortally/sexually harassed by a demon or not. As a human, Rayflo was a revered knight, as a well raped vampire he was a bit of a bitch, and in the last hundred years or so, he's been... pretty happy. In a lot of ways, Rayflo fits the vampire stereotype: he's sexy and likes to wear his shirt open or just not at all whenever possible, he flirts as a matter of course, he lives a rich life in an expensive mansion, and lives with the sort of carefree security brought on by ageless beauty, immortality, and super powers. But along with all of that, Rayflo is also just a Surprisingly Nice Guy. He is playful, generous, supportive, and generally hard to upset. He takes care of others so casually it often goes unnoticed, and yet rarely asks anything for himself. In short, he devotes himself pretty much utterly to the things he loves, and is equally owned by them. Yet above even loyalty he sticks to certain ideals, and has painfully let go of things he loves before, even while trying to protect them from themselves.

Which isn't to suggest, at all, that he's a saint. Rayflo is perfectly at home poking his student for lulz, evading the police, disobeying orders, or just deciding to stand on the opposite side of an issue and blatantly telling his student that he should probably kill him. Really, the expansive amount of time between the rare serious moments are mostly filled in by exuberant affection, pranks, stupid banter, and smoking.

It's also worth noting that despite being a super sexy vampire who also likes sex, Rayflo never once pushes for it, not even stealing a kiss from his student in a hundred years. And yet, he himself, apparently has no rape barriers. He's been mauled by demons and women without resisting, even while super totally not being into that.

Blank Personality: A blank Rayflo would be a lot like regular Rayflo, only less cheeky or carefree or secretly not having a lot of self worth. His core self is not vampire, but knight, and while he would probably still have some innate hoboness going on, loyalty and a sort of non-submissive servitude to his team would be innate. Rayflo has a huge capacity for love that far supersedes any sense of self preservation, and a tendency to adopt cute things. He would likely end up uber loyal to his team, perhaps something of a father figure, and really not as concerned about his past as his now. But at the same time, Rayflo is a Good Guy and would likely never sink to the level some games require, and as such would probably act as moral/humane support for his team.

That said, particularly as he remembers the whole 'undying vampire' thing, the threat of death that isn't really death wouldn't upset him so much. He wouldn't be as concerned with not killing people as much as not betraying them, and as Rayflo remembered his past, he would Probably Not Talk About It and seem to become even more solidly entrenched in the life that is right in front of him, all while becoming more (apparently) open and carefree, possibly a bit of a squealing fanboy over his loved ones (soooooo cute!)
