Apps

Please read these guidelines carefully, as failure to complete the application properly may result in a need for revision or outright rejection. Be sure that you have also read the Rules and General Info pages, the latter of which contains information necessary to write your RP sample.

Apping New Characters

In general, all answers besides the first two should be answered in full sentences with a reasonable grasp of the English language. Run it through a spell-checker; make your Grammar Nazi friend take a look at it. Nothing here needs to be a college thesis, but a little proof-reading can go a long way. We do not demand that your paragraph breaks come at an editorially ideal point, but we do demand that they exist.

We are also looking for insight over length. A longer application is not always better! Take the space you need to give a well-thought-out answer, but walls and walls of text will definitely not speed up the approval process.

Contact/Personal Info
A comment separate from your app with your name, preferred journal, and email. Making it a separate comment lets us know who you are, but lets us keep your email address screened.

Canon (and version, if applicable)
Should be pretty straightforward!

Reference Picture and Wiki link (again, if applicable)
Again, pretty straightforward!

Point in the time-line taken Whether the character comes from the end of the series or a point partway through. For characters being apped from ongoing canons, we ask that you pick a definite spot to start from, though you are welcome to add memories past that point when your canon progresses.

Character History
A brief summary of your characters history, just so the mods have at least a little background to go on. This section generally need be no longer than 300 words, and if it takes up more than an entire comment you have done it wrong.

Motivation
Basically, why this character would willingly agree to come to Sabra. What you write in here isn't set in stone, especially for ongoing canons, and doesn't have to be that SPECIFIC WISH, but show us you're thinking about it at the least!

Canon Personality
Can be a little longer than the history, if necessary.

Blank Personality
The most important section! Please explain what personality traits you believe your character will lose and retain upon arriving in Sabra La Tau and why. Analysis of why your characters do what they do, and how their memories shape those actions is necessary to give an acceptable answer to this section; simply listing how your character will act is not enough.

Some characters may act in an extremely similar fashion to their canon selves and some may act radically different. However, in either case, we want you to explain why. We want the players to chose for themselves what their character would be like sans memories, but unsupportable (or simply unsupported) answers will be rejected.

Writing Sample
Your character receives the recording that all Blanks receive upon awakening. Describe both the recording and your character's reaction in a ~300 word third-person sample. Yes, it may seem strange to have a third-person sample required in a first-person RP, however, this will give you a chance to show off your grasp of both the canon and Blank incarnation of your character. Don't worry about your purple prose or deadly allergy to adverbs; what we are looking for here is characterization and an interesting spin. Please also keep in mind what can and can't be in that video.

As a general rule of thumb, we tend to prefer apps that describe the Blanks' reaction to seeing themselves in the message over the ones that concentrate on the Blanks' reaction to the room or their own sense of confusion. Introspection is key! How would your Blank's reaction be different from other Blanks?

Reapping Dropped Characters

This app form is for those of you who have dropped a character and wish to pick that character back up. It is NOT for a player who wishes to app a character that someone else has dropped; those characters will use the normal app form and start over as a fresh Blank.

Character Name:

State before they left:
Give a brief description of the character's emotions/state of mind up to the point where they stopped being an active character.

IC day they were dropped:
Gives a good idea of how much IC time they've been away.

Destination:
Where were they, and, if they were with a judge, what was their time away like? For instance, if you went off to frolic with the Foreman, you spent time working just like he said! You were super happy and well fed. You feel like you had the springtime of your life but you really can't remember any of the details! Why? Because you were a giant cave ant at the time! You lucky dog. While it's not strictly necessary to go into much detail about your life as an ant, it makes Foreman conversations in the future more fun.

Reaction to their time away:
This section will vary depending on where your character ended up. Also, if you wish to reset your character and have them join a different unit, this is the place to let us know!
- If they were in the pillar, how will it affect your character to have been completely immobilized, in a semi-conscious state, for the aforementioned amount of time?
- If they were with the Foreman, they spent their time away as a GIANT ANT. What effects did their time away have on them? Mood improvement? Strength and constitution up? Just put on muscle weight? Regained health? Zen with the world?
- If they were with their unit's patron or otherwise away, how was it? What effects did or will it have on their physical and mental health?

Shin Seijuurou [2/3]

[identity profile] ghostduster.insanejournal.com 2010-09-05 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality:

Shin is intense.  When he's decided to devote himself to a goal, there's absolutely nothing that will stop him from achieving that goal.  And since football has basically been his main motivation for the past five years of his life, all of his energies get channeled into that.  To Shin, there is no real excuse for allowing yourself to slack off; if you fail to take even the smallest opponent seriously, then you might be defeated.  Or you might miss out on a major rival opportunity, which would also be terrible.  Shin doesn't hold quite the same standards for other people as he does for himself, however.  The only critique he gives comes when he's analzying a play, or training someone else.  "Fun" doesn't usually enter into his life, even when playing sports; he's only really learned to enjoy himself since the end of his team's rematch with Deimon.  Challenge, on the other hand, is exhilarating, even if it results in defeat.  Still, for the most part, he is calm and taciturn even in unusual situations.

In fact, Shin is pretty damn quiet in general.  He's not stupid by any means, and he can (and will) talk about football quite fluently, given the opportunity, but when it comes to normal small talk, he's pretty hopeless.  He doesn't speak more than is necessary; when he does speak, it is strictly honest and to the point.  Lying is something he understands objectively, mostly via Hiruma's scare tactics, but not on a social level.  In fact, most social niceties are completely lost on him.  Shin scared people frequently enough as a kid that he ended up mostly shunned by the time he hit middle school.  Even now, it's highly unlikely that he has any friends outside of football.  Still, Shin's quite the intelligent person.  He does well in school and has a fine analytical mind, which could presumably be applied to something other than football.  He just usually doesn't.  And that means he looks all kinds of clueless about things outside his scope of understanding.

Basically, Shin boils down to a set of priorities, which he follows absolutely.  Football is first and foremost; everything else falls somewhere behind that.  And while he can learn to apply his skills in different ways (like chasing down a motorcycle in the early series), he tends to be utterly clueless outside his favored sport.  But he doesn't mean any harm by it.  Shin is in a world of his own... light years ahead of everyone else when it comes to football, and more than a bit slow at everything else.

Blank Personality:

Shin without football will be a strange, silent Shin indeed.  Canon has him speaking all of three words before joining the football team, and two of them were his name.  His teammates will probably get very little out of him, verbally, until he finds his feet properly.  Otherwise, he'll be hyper-focused on the absolute necessities and utterly ignorant of everything else.  His analytic abilities will emerge as him absorbing every scrap of information he can get his hands on, in addition to building up a mental library of body types and skillsets. Shin's the sort of guy who would keep repeating the same technique over and over and over again until he becomes completely certain that he's got the most efficient method worked out.

Even with the War, however, Shin will be somewhat aimless until he finds his niche in his team.  Football or even sports aren't particularly inherent obsessions for him; it just happened to be the thing he got pulled into and excelled at.  He might have have fallen to another sport or club just as easily.  Similarly, while his stats will lean him towards obsessing over physical things (fighting, gathering, whatever), whatever he happens to set his mind to first will probably become his forte.  He'll probably feel the need to seek out some sort of rival eventually as well, whether said rival is on his own team or someone else's.  Otherwise he'll quickly feel that something is missing or absent, especially if he isn't challenged enough.  His intelligence will not be any sharp for lack of experience, though it'll take him a while for him to figure out which insight means what.  Emotionally ... well, he'll still be about as emotive as a rock.  But that wasn't about to change.

Shin Seijuurou [3/3]

[identity profile] ghostduster.insanejournal.com 2010-09-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Shin will imprint hard on his team. He’s a terribly bland person on his own, so he’ll follow the lead of whoever he’s placed with. His inherent competitiveness might make him more violent than he was in canon, especially if he’s called on to kill early, but he’s a softie at heart. Essentially, while he'll be very quiet and empty at first, he'll reawaken the more intense parts of his personality as analogous situations crop up.  The question is mostly which influences will stick where, and in what order.  Who knows?  If someone teaches him how to talk this time around, he might even manage to be semi-social.

Writing Sample:

He didn't move, at first.  Consciousness returned swiftly enough, but the blank lay silent for a minute or two yet. Only when his eyes had accustomed themselves to the darkness did he sit up, feeling his muscles stretch and groan from that minor exertion.  After that, his arms came first -- extending them left, then right -- followed by a roll of his shoulders and slowly stretching his neck.  His body remembered how to move better than he did, somehow; he found himself repeating the stretches just to reaffirm how each part was supposed to move.  Next came a thorough examination of the things he was wearing, the bed he was lying on, the curious metallic object on the floor…

Something about that last item drew the blank’s attention. It felt small and flimsy in his fingers, so he handled it as delicately as he could. What was it? Peering in the glass at one end did nothing, and neither did shaking the thing. (Although he thought he heard something rattle plaintively after doing the latter.) Only after he glanced at the correct end of the cylinder did he find anything interesting.

There was a young man inside. (Strange, he hadn’t heard any tiny people when he’d shaken the object.) He was powerfully built, well-muscled and … what was the word? The word “athletic” required the concept of the term “athlete,” which he did not yet remember. Either way, he adjusted a pair of gloves on his hand and looked straight back at the blank. “Competition…” he started, forming the words slowly but clearly, “…is important.” A pause as he contemplated what to say next. “But memory is too. I do this willingly.”

With that, the image faded, leaving the blank with a strange little tube of copper and very little idea of what was going on. Competition? He didn’t see any just yet. Memory? Nothing there either. Perhaps the tube had something like that? He frowned at it and tugged lightly at the large end of the tube. Something popped — and then the thing was in two pieces in his hand.

Flimsy, thought the blank. There wasn’t a trace of that little man he’d seen, even if he squinted carefully into both halves of the tube. Clearly he would find no further answers here.

Canon: Gundam SEED Destiny
Reference picture and Wiki link: Reference picture (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/elthman/three/283b3d38.jpg) ---- Wiki link (http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Meer_Campbell)
Point in the time-line taken: Non-spoilery: end of canon. Spoilery:

Character History:
In a war between genetically altered Coordinators and normal Naturals - a war started by those very differences, a group of protagonists from both sides started a third neutral faction in order to stop the war from spiraling into total destruction. One of the influential figureheads of this faction was Lacus Clyne - daughter of one of the Coordinators' leaders and pop-singer idol. War ended, and Lacus Clyne disappeared, living quietly and peacefully on Earth. Two years later, another war began, and the new leader of the Coordinators (Gilbert Dullindal) hired Meer Campbell, a girl who sounded just like Lacus Clyne, to undergo surgery to look exactly like and impersonate her. After all, Lacus Clyne was a very influential person, and in the new hard times, since she could not be found, Dullindal needed a way to calm and inspire (ultimately, deceive) the people.

Meer performed morale-raising concerts, and tried to act the part of Lacus Clyne by trying to flirt with ace pilot Athrun Zala (who, long ago, was engaged to Lacus). Despite the deception, Meer was genuinely happy if she could help people, especially because she was such a huge fan of Lacus. As time goes on, and Dullindal's real plans started to come to light, Meer turned down the chance to escape with Athrun, saying that she was Lacus, and it was okay that she was doing what she'd been doing. Eventually, her farce was revealed to the world, and she went into hiding.

Athrun and Lacus soon found her, and though she initially acted coldly toward them, caught up in her own, fake image, she relented to their insistence and kindness. Spoilers from here on to the end:

Meer Campbell 2/3

[identity profile] yzak.insanejournal.com 2010-09-07 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality:
Meer is an insecure girl hidden behind a bubbly, outgoing smile, to put it in simplest terms. Looking up to Lacus so much - a woman so influential and talented - any ordinary girl would wish she had that. As an ordinary girl, Meer was another face in the crowd, not somebody who people would gawk at and admire if seen just walking the streets. Though she's a little insecure about that, it's not the sort of insecurity that stops her from trying, as she was involved somewhat in the acting/dancing area, perhaps following her own dream. When she becomes the "new Lacus," Meer makes the best of it. She performs as much as she can, dances, enjoys the spotlight, the attention and the love, and does as requested for Dullindal by making announcements, sending words of comfort and peace to the people.

She feels bad impersonating somebody she adores so much, but since Lacus couldn't be found, she figures "that it's okay for now." Especially because her own feelings on the situation are genuine - she truly wants to help her people and end the war with her image, since she can't do anything like that as "Meer." When she gets caught up in being Lacus, she can be a little irritable - as shown when the real Lacus shows up to steal a shuttle meant for her and nobody comes to greet her when she arrives. She's unsure and scared when things start to change, and doesn't want to turn elsewhere, but rather keep relying on Dullindal. When she's forced into hiding after her true identity is revealed, she has a breakdown, pulling a gun on Lacus and yelling about how it didn't matter, because Lacus didn't do those things during the new war, she did, so she was Lacus. Scared to become a "nobody" again, she acts rashly and without thought.

But in the end, her goodness comes through when she calms down and rationalizes. Spoilers:

Blank Personality:
As a complete blank, Meer is going to be unsure and scared of her situation, even upon seeing herself accept it. She's going to be determined to help her teammates, and part of it is in fact going to be a real want to help others who are as lost as she feels. But it's also going to be because she wants to have a sense of identity. She's a naturally cheerful and happy girl (as you can see from canon during the non-emo moments), so she'll keep those traits in Sabra. She's also naturally the type who can get down about things if she fails and worry about her impact on the world. Depending on what sort of memories she regains, she can go either way in terms of overall personality. When she knows all of her circumstances of her surgery and deceit, she's okay. But only getting bits and pieces of it could result in panicking over why she's being such a person.

Meer Campbell 3/3

[identity profile] yzak.insanejournal.com 2010-09-07 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Writing Sample:

Her breathing was quick, her eyes wide and panicked. When the blank first woke, she sat up, rubbing at her eyes and looking around. She didn't recognize the room she had woken up in, so paused to think about why she wound up where she was. That was when she realized she didn't remember. Not only the circumstances of her whereabouts, but anything. She held her head in her hands, pink hair spilling over her shoulders.

"Why can't I remember...?! I should be able to remember. My name. My name is..."

She let out a frustrated, but exasperated noise when her attempt to think of something, of anything came up short. The only thing that distracted her from her panic was when she felt something roll against her - a small, bronze tube had been lying beside her. She stared at it through blurry, tear-clouded eyes, as if she expected it to do something else. After a moment of silence and a calming of her breathing, she slowly reached down to pick the tube up, inspecting it closely. No markings, no names or no notable oddities about it, so she opted to look into the eyepiece.

A young woman. Long, pink hair -- she paused, looking down at her own hair again -- was the figure in this tube her? Feeling a rush of adrenaline and hope, she moved her attention back to the vision, maybe this would answer all of her questions. The woman stared back at her, and with a small nod, called "I do this willingly!"

... and that was it. The blank looked disappointed; that hadn't helped at all. In fact, it confused her even more. She stood, dropping the tube back into the bed and moving to the door. She opened it, peeked out, and then stepped through the doorway.

Yarizakura Hime 1/2

[identity profile] victorisham.insanejournal.com 2010-09-08 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Your Name: Vic
Journal (IJ, LJ, IS or DW): victorisham @ lj and ij
Email Address: carleywood at hotmail dot com
Character Name: Yarizakura Hime
Canon: Yozakura Quartet
Reference picture and Wiki link: Reference (”http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Victorisham/YozakuraQuartetv01c01-00a.jpg”) and wiki (”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yozakura_Quartet”)
Point in the time-line taken: End of chapter 34
Character History:Yozakura Quartet is the tale of one city called Sakura-Shinmachi that rests on the border between the normal, human dimension and the dimension of youkai that resides below it. In this town, humans and youkai alike live amongst each other peacefully … or at least try to. When any incidents do break out, there's a city of council of sorts dedicated to stopping them. One of these people is the town mayor, Yarizakura Hime. Who is also sixteen. The politics about that is kind of a long story.

Hime is the member of a long-running family in Sakura-Shinmachi with a history of its heirs being the town mayors. She lost her parents when she was young and was raised and trained by her mayor grandmother to become someone who would be able to protect their town. She's also one of the town's many youkai – until she willingly gets the majority of her power sealed by the town god, as well as the town's memories of her being a youkai. She does this to try to get the point of view of both youkai and humans. With some youkai power left over and a group of loyal friends, the Yozakura Quartet thwart evil and have wacky adorable hijinks on the side!

Motivation She'd want a way for all youkai and humans in her town to be able to live together peacefully, without the hassle of having other cities try to pressure them into getting rid of them. She also wouldn't have any issues with having to lose her memories, having borne the weight of her own for so long in canon.

Canon Personality: Hime's main personality trait is her devotion to her town and the denizens of it. She was raised to become someone who could protect it by herself if need be. She places their safety and happiness above all other things – even her own well-being, if required. She's the kind of person who would drag herself out of a hospital bed and run straight into a fight if it meant protecting Sakura-Shinmachi or her friends. At heart, she's a very responsible girl with the weight of of the town on her shoulders. She's remarkably strong under that, not just physically, but emotionally – even if she does have doubts about whether or not she can be as strong as her grandmother was in her prime. Hime's constantly working to improve her strength. She does her best under the circumstances.

Of course, it can be hard to see that if you're just meeting her casually. On the surface, Hime's just a brash, stubborn girl with a huge appetite. She's bossy (which kind of comes with the mayor position), sometimes overly so. She's very straight forward with what she wants, loud and upfront. She wears her heart on her sleeves. Underneath all this, though, she's a kind, hardworking girl, willing to do anything to make her friends or the town happy.

She also made the town anthem “tsun dere tsun tsun, dere tsun tsun”, to show how responsible she is.

Yarizakura Hime 2/2

[identity profile] victorisham.insanejournal.com 2010-09-08 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality: Not much of her base personality would be changed. She'd been trained and raised to become a mayor as great as her grandmother as a child, so she would lose her devotion to the town, but that would only be replaced by her devotion to her team and partner team as a result. She wouldn't be as gung-ho about it at the start until she started to form more bonds with her teammates. And then it would be very close to her canon situation; she'd die for their happiness if need be, wanting to take their safety onto her shoulders. She'd try her best at every game, but would hesitate at ones that involved doing harm unto others – she still has the personality of a normal teenage girl underneath her mayor persona, and that would be kept even if she lost her memories.

She'd retain her reckless personality, though, especially if it was for her team. If she was wounded and her team was in danger, she would need to be stopped from just getting up and trying to help them anyway. Normally, though, she'd keep her bossiness (though it would be decreased) and her brash, upfront way of speaking. She wouldn't have as much doubts about herself thanks to losing her memories of being trained to be a mayor as great as her grandmother, but she also wouldn't have the discipline from that the training gave her. She would end up more rude due to this, but her heart would still be that of a kind person, willing to do anything for her friends and teammates.

Her huge appetite would remain unfortunately intact.

Writing Sample: It felt like one of those lazy mornings, if she could remember what those felt like. She didn't feel like a lazy person, though, so she sat straight up in the bed (she couldn't remember if it was her bed) and tried to think of what she had to do today. Hmm.

… Nothing came to mind. That was odd, but she tried not to dwell on it. She wouldn't get anything accomplished by just sitting around having no recollection of things, after all. So she got out of bed, wrestling with the unfamiliar sheets she had been tangled up in a bit, and went to get up. – And then sat back down, because she had nearly stepped on a tube at the side of the bed she hadn't noticed before, or maybe knocked down when she was sleeping.

Her curiosity overrode her need to figure out what to do. And maybe this tube would help, she figured, so she leaned down to pick it up from her sitting position. Nothing happened immediately as she tested its weight, tossing it from hand to hand. It certainly wouldn't make a good weapon. There wasn't any food in it, either, she figured out from shaking it and trying to unscrew the top. She was hungry, too, though it was less of an empty stomach hunger and more of a “would like to be eating something” hunger. Something caught the blank's eye as she tried to unscrew the top, though – a flash of an image, the sound of a voice.

“Hmm.” She thought to herself. To investigate, or to search for food? Or maybe this was a something that would tell her where food was. So she brought it up to her eye. What greeted her was the image of a young woman, her long hair pulled back in a low ponytail and a long piece of cloth wrapped around her neck.

“Compared to protecting all of them, this should be a piece of cake! I do this willingly.” That didn't help her find a meal at all.

Geez,” she muttered – and then paused. Listened to the message again. Reached back and felt her long, black hair. Repeated the message to herself. It was her. And apparently, she wasn't inclined to help herself get something good to eat. Protection had nothing to do with that.

Something in that message did strike a chord within her, though. Protect what's important. If only she knew who “they” were, or what was important to her right now. Maybe finding out where she was, or what she was supposed to be doing, would help. After she had a bite, of course. Tube kept firmly in her hand, she got up from her bed and set out on a confident strut to the door of the room. Maybe she'd find out what's important to her out there.

Point in the time-line taken:Katekyo Hitman Reborn is an ongoing series. The point in the timeline I am choosing to take Tsuna from is the middle of the future arc, just before the invasion of the Millefiore base.

Character History: Sawada Tsunayoshi (‘Tsuna’ for short) was an all-around below average loser. He flunked quizzes, failed at sports, and couldn’t get the girl….hence, a loser. Known throughout Namimori middle school as “No-Good Tsuna”, he was well aware of his lot in life. He was surprisingly at peace with his failure of an existence, but it turned out the life he expected was not the life he was in store for. The day Tsuna met the baby hitman Reborn was the day his average life became a complicated mafia nightmare.

His candidacy for tenth boss of the Vongola famiglia was not only presented to him, but shoved down his throat. And, despite his protests, training commenced from that day forward. Like a rollercoaster, this journey had it’s ups and downs, but charged through it all at full speed with no option of getting off the ride. The days were filled with new , unwanted responsibilities and enemies that were each stronger than the last. As the days went by, the training became tougher and tougher and more and more it began to look like there was no way out. It wasn’t all bad though, as he built up his family with a variety of new found friends who not only helped him in fights, but also gave him a reason to fight.

Perhaps the most important thing Tsuna gained, however, was a a stronger sense of self. Since meeting the baby hitman, Tsuna has changed quite a bit. He has gained friends and learned to deal with responsibilities. Though it wasn’t the life he wanted, it was the life he needed to become more than “No-Good Tsuna”. And yet, despite all of his experiences and personal growth, his reluctance to accept his newfound title remains.

Motivation Tsuna’s motivation has much to do with the point in the timeline that I’m taking him from. The battle against Byakuran is the toughest he and his guardians have had to face. The fact that their future selves failed does not help to improve morale. However, if they do not win this battle, the terrible future they’ve been brought to will come to pass.

Tsuna would come to Sabra with the wish that going through all of this will help him to win the battle against Byakuran and save the future. Although Tsuna has no wish to be the head of the Vongola famiglia, he does wish to do everything in his power to keep his famiglia safe.

Canon Personality: Tsuna was average, any way you looked at it. With a shrimpy body, average looks, and slumped posture, it was no wonder he tended to go unnoticed at school. The only thing remarkable about him was how remarkably he failed at everything he tried (or didn’t try at, rather). His sole motivation to carry on existing was to see a girl he never even had the guts to approach. However, beneath all the poor coordination, lack of motivation and absence of talent there was a kind person with a strong heart waiting to run around half naked and on fire.

After meeting Reborn and being forced to face responsibility, Tsuna manages to grow as a person. True, he still sucks at math and can’t hit a homerun, but he can put his fear on the backburner to stand up and do what needs to be done. With a strong sense of right and wrong, Tsuna does his best to protect his important people and fight for what he thinks is right. Although he is not a born leader, and although he does not want to be the one to make the big calls, he is the one his family looks to. And while Tsuna has never had any problem in letting himself down, he can not bring himself to let down his guardians.

Tsuna is a bit of a whiner who complains about the small stuff and who sometimes….okay, lots of times…..overreacts. He would prefer to leave the decisions up to someone else and he doesn’t have the most faith in himself, but he learns not to run from responsibility and to take charge when the things that matter are on the line. Yes, he may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but he is a kind, caring, sympathetic individual. Worthy of the total loyalty his friends and guardians feel for him, Tsuna is a truly good guy. Although he may have some minor faults, and although Tsuna may not want to be boss, the fact remains that he is the right man for the job.

Blank Personality: It is my expectation that Blank!Tsunayoshi will be very similar to the Tsuna that was before Reborn came into the picture and pistol-whipped him into shape. What this means, essentially, is that Tsunayoshi will revert to “No-Good”. As stated before, he is not really all that smart, strong or coordinated and this will all carry over until he manages to gain motivation or memories. Because he will not have his memories, he will not yet be at peace with his failure. This is both a blessing and a curse in that it will be hard on him, but he will also have a chance to overcome it and try to improve himself as opposed to just accepting it.

Since he will be in a situation in which him improving will be necessary and desirable, he is likely to try rather than just sit back and accept it. Tsuna is a kind person who does not like to see others suffer and who does not like to be at the source of other’s suffering. It is because of this that he will try his hardest to improve himself and become a valuable player. The part of him that runs away from responsibility will be there and since Reborn is not around to force him to take the lead, it is likely that he will not make any attempts to do so. He would rather assist than lead. Until he manages to build up some confidence, and perhaps even after, this desire to settle for supporting will continue. His support will come in any way he can contribute, not only in looking after others physical well-being, but also the emotional. Especially if he manages to befriend those people, he will give 110%.

Writing Sample: He was warm. All he knew was that he was comfortable, he was warm, and he did not want to wake up. He groped at the sheets to pull them over his head. It was at that moment that his arm brushed against cold metal, effectively startling him out of bed.

Hiiiiiii!!!!“ he shrieked as he wind-milled his arms to try and stop the fall. It was useless though and he landed on the floor with a thud. As if to add insult to injury, the metal object that woke him rolled off the bed and hit him smack dab in the face. He groaned and rubbed at his sore nose…somehow he got the feeling that he should have expected that.

He lifted the object for inspection. It was a telescope, smooth and made of brass. Any chance of sleep ruined and with no need to get back up yet, he took a bored peek through the telescope and shivered. The gritty, unclear image of a young boy that he saw seemed almost familiar.

Searching his memories, only to find he had none caused a small knot of tension to grow in the pit of his stomach. The grainy figure looked up, down, to the left…anywhere, but directly at him and hesitantly said, “ Running away isn‘t an option.” The knot in his stomach tightened as the boy finally looked up and, with determination, said, “I do this willingly.“

He wondered why he couldn’t run away, especially when that was all he felt like doing. He wanted to know what could possibly be so important and how he could possibly forget it. He wasn’t sure of anything right now, except for the sudden feeling that he was going to be sick. With that he scrambled off the floor and out the door to get some air and hopefully some answers.

Kanda Yuu [2/3]

[identity profile] inthemud.insanejournal.com 2010-09-12 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Kanda Yuu
Canon: D. Gray-Man
Reference picture and Wiki link: http://dgrayman.wikia.com/wiki/Yu_Kanda
Point in the time-line taken: Just prior to the confrontation with Wisely & Alma Karma.

Character History: In the imaginary end of the 19th century, a war is raging. On the one side, there is the Millennium Earl and the Noah Family, who wish to bring about the genocide of all humans and the dawn of their new world order. On the other, the Church, the Black Order, and Exorcists. With an ability to synchronise with a mysterious substance called Innocence, Exorcists purify and destroy Akuma, infernal creations of the Earl that feed off human despair. However, “good” and “evil” in the world is never a simple case of black-and-white. The Church and its subsidiaries are capable of brutal and ruthless experiments in their goal to battle the Earl, and have destroyed many of their own in various attempts to force Innocence synchronization and create better, faster, and stronger Exorcists.

Kanda Yuu is one of the very few successful results of the hundreds of experiments run by the Order. The only true survivor of the “Second Exorcist” project, Kanda is superhuman and capable of extensive bodily regeneration, even past the point of death. Previously an Exorcist who had been killed by Akuma, Kanda’s soul was resurrected in his new body via brain transplant. He then underwent extensive torture as scientists attempted to force him to synchronise with Innocence—a process that ripped apart his body and frequently killed him (he got better). Eventually, Kanda began to see hallucinations, which eventually turn out to be memories of “his” past life, including visions of a woman who he loved. When the scientists attempted to kill him for finding out the truth, he was rescued by Alma Karma, the only other Second Exorcist, and his only friend—who he was then forced to destroy upon Alma losing control of his Innocence and partially becoming an Akuma.

Upon surviving this, Kanda becomes apprenticed to General Tiedoll, and eventually ends up working with fellow Exorcists Allen Walker, Rabi, Miranda Lotto, and Lenalee Lee.

Motivation: Kanda’s driving motivation is to see “that person” again. It is strongly implied that the person Kanda is referring to is the woman in his hallucinations/memories—who appears to also be Alma Karma, who Kanda thought he had killed. Kanda has a great deal of unfinished business with his past life and with Alma. Finding out the truth of this and pursuing the loose strings of this knowledge are what would drive Kanda to Sabra La Tau.

Canon Personality: Kanda is D. Gray-Man’s token pretty-boy—and stone cold bitch. Kanda’s default personality setting is “pissed off” at everything and everybody. His personality profile doesn’t even have a list of his dislikes, just “too many to name.” However, he notably hates naive people, people who don't keep their promises, cursed people, people who can't keep their mouths shut, people who call him by his given name (Yuu), and sweet things—these being things he specifically has opportunity to bitch about in the course of the series. And despite having a pretty traumatic life, a lot of his angry, temperamental, and cold personality is just flat-out the way Kanda has always been, from the time he was born out of a muddy lotus puddle in an underground laboratory.

Basically, all Kanda has is a sword, so his problems all start looking like something he should stab in the face. And considering that he has a hair-trigger temper (literally! you Do Not Touch The Hair), Kanda has ample opportunity to try to stab people, and has absolutely no time for relationships, stupid platitudes, or mercy standing in the way of his duty. Kanda takes his duty as an Exorcist very, very seriously, which may actually lead to a handful of his actually good qualities: his loyalty, strength, dedication, and utter lack of hesitation. It’s just that this occasionally (or often, in the case of Allen Walker) leads to infighting and threatening his own comrades if they seem like they might get in Kanda’s way.

Kanda Yuu [3/3]

[identity profile] inthemud.insanejournal.com 2010-09-12 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality: As a Blank, Kanda’s temper and general hatred of everything that breathes is . . . not likely to abate significantly. He might have a little bit more of the quiet zen he can exhibit at times, seeing as he’s missing his memories of being horribly tortured and betrayed as a tiny child. However, being cold, snappish, and prone to flying off the handle and becoming threatening at the slightest provocation really seems to just be second nature to him. It’s not a case of being soft and cuddly on the inside, if only people gave him a chance! No. Kanda may be a little more reserved, and just snub people if they piss him off instead of whipping out his sword or verbally tearing them down, because he knows better than to start fights he can’t win (. . . probably). He’ll participate with his team and play in the games with strong dedication and loyalty, and maybe he’ll even come to care about a few other peoples’ well-being! But that doesn’t mean he won’t be just as likely to tell them to shut up and die.

Writing Sample:

He’s out of the room as soon as he finishes watching the message, walking quickly and purposefully. The message tube is tucked firmly in his belt, but the knife they gave him is already in his hand, just in case. Where he is, why he’s here—he doesn’t know. Just that he came here willingly, and that he (if that person was indeed him) is desperate to find someone. A very particular someone.

Nothing can get in the way of finding that person. No matter what. I do this willingly.

And what good is that information to him? The entire situation leaves a bad taste in his mouth, makes him grip his knife more tightly. He’s cold, hungry, and irritated. His frown grows deeper with every step he takes, as no answers magically show themselves on the cold stone walls.

He’s gritting his teeth so hard that he feels a headache coming on. Forcing himself to relax, he pushes his hair back out of his face with his free hand. It’s irritating, too. Getting in his eyes, tickling the back of his neck. It feels wrong. Everything about this feels wrong.

But he’ll cope. He’ll figure out what the hell’s going on, get what he came for, and then get out again. Simple as that. And if anybody tries to stand in his way . . .

He tightens his fingers around the hilt of his knife. First things first, though: he’s got to find a hair tie.

Merlin 1/2

[identity profile] carateristic.insanejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Merlin
Canon: BBC's Merlin
Reference picture and Wiki link: Pic (http://darkaeon.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/s01e00_01_merlin_1024x768.jpg) and Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlin_(TV_series))
Point in the time-line taken: Post S2 finale.

Character History:
Camelot was at an age of prosperity with its king, Uther Pendragon. However, the king has a personal and all-consuming vendetta with magic and because of it, Camelot is often under attack by magical forces, wishing to put an end to Uther. Enter Merlin, a young boy from a small village at the border, hoping to make a life at Camelot, a life that will hold some meaning to him. He is then adopted by Gaius, the court physician and through a series of unfortunate events, servant to the prince Arthur Pendragon. But Merlin has a secret. He is one of the most powerful sorcerers the world has ever seen and his destiny is irrevocably tied to Arthur Pendragon, for better or for worse. Struggling with his need to express his magic and his need to be accepted and appreciated, Merlin has to juggle his life, his morality and his decisions in order to fulfil one goal: To allow Arthur to succeed the throne of Camelot. Unfortunately, very often Merlin's decisions prove to be the undoing of Camelot.

Motivation
Merlin would like a way for Arthur to gain the throne without his feelings for his father to come into conflict. And because Arthur's feelings are paramount to Merlin, this is what he has come to Sabra to do.
Canon Personality:
Even as a servant, Merlin is bold and always ready to speak his mind. Sarcastic, smart (at least smarter than he looks) and witty, Merlin often endeavours to have the last word in the conversation (even if said word has no real meaning, being something he made up on the spot). However, catch him off guard and he will often react spontaneously with less-than-smart retorts. At times he can be overwhelmed by someone with a strong personality, but Merlin isn't a person who can be cowed easily, standing his ground on things he believes to be right. Even if he gets thrown into the stocks for it.

As canon goes on, his views on right and wrong, but Merlin remains a person who tries very hard to do what is right, even if the consequences tend to go badly in his favour. Emotional and easily influenced by other people's feelings, Merlin is kind and endearing and that will never change. Yet, possessing a very narrow view of right and wrong, Merlin can easily offend and bluster into a situation he has no real idea of. Nevertheless, his heart has always been in the right place and he cares deeply for people, always wanting to help in any way even to the point of self-sacrifice. And while Arthur and he often bicker and fight, Merlin serves him with a wholehearted devotion that ranges on single-mindedness, only wanting the best for Arthur at the expense of himself and other people. For Arthur, Merlin's morality goes grey, as Merlin is willing to do anything in order to protect Arthur's life, whether it be poisoning a close friend or exploding people with a magical staff. For Arthur, Merlin tolerates the rule of Uther Pendragon, always dreaming and hoping for the era of peace and balance that Arthur will bring.

Merlin 2/2

[identity profile] carateristic.insanejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Blank Personality:
The most important influence in Merlin's decision making, Arthur, will be gone. The core personality of Merlin will remain unchanged though. He'll still be a snarky, annoying, often sheepish guy trying to do the best he can, but his drive will be lacking because in the beginning, he won't have his destiny to look forward to. He'll simply have the goal of getting more memories and a wish he doesn't even recall to guide him, so his feelings towards Sabra and his team in the beginning will be very half-hearted. He will be strongly loyal to his team and his friends, yet they will not reach the level of loyalty Merlin held for Arthur. Most likely, he will spend a lot of time questioning himself and his abilities, having no prior memories to explain his differences.

Depending on what happens, Merlin could develop a stronger self-esteem for himself and his abilities, unhindered by Camelot's prejudice while his memories of Arthur and his devotion are returned to him slowly. It's also likely, depending on which memories he receives first, Merlin will ponder on his character, wondering if the decisions he has made, even in Arthur's name are the right ones. But Merlin will still possess his kindness, his need to help people and his feelings of right and wrong, even without his memories to support him and that won't change.

Writing Sample:
He blinked.

Then almost immediately he got up, stumbling out of bed ungracefully. He stared at the bed, his brow furrowing. The bed simply stared back at him. Rubbing the back of his neck, he turned to look around at the room. Everything was a pristine white. "Wonderful décor," he said out loud, "They must really like white." Not that he knew who they were, but it seemed like a decent enough conclusion. "I don't suppose anyone is willing to tell me who I am? Anyone?" he said outloud. No one answered. The bed continued to stare back at him and he simply cocked an eyebrow in its general direction.

This was boring now. How long did he have to stay here? Could someone hear him? ... Could they be invisible? He shook his head from his thoughts. If he kept thinking like that, he wasn't going to get anywhere. How would he help him to know they were invisible? If they were invisible, he corrected himself. With a sigh he sat on the bed with a heavy thud, rubbing circles on his forehead.

Nothing. He couldn't remember anything. Is that normal? ... Then again, what is normal anymore? All in all, he just felt extremely frustrated. Having no memories felt like they were cheating him. Cheating him of what though? He sighed and buried his face in his hands. Too many questions. He wanted to go back to sleep.

"Hello?"

He jumped up again, and fell down on the ground promptly. Wincing, he rubbed his hips, his head moving back and forth for the sound of the voice. Then, he noticed a metallic object under his pillow. Frowning, he got up and pulled it out. There was a funny-looking man speaking on the cover of the tube. He wore a blue tunic with a red scarf. He wrinkled his face at the choice of colours.

"You need to listen," the man said, "You need to do this. Remember, I did this willingly. For A--," and the picture vanished. He waited. Nothing happened. He shook the tube vigorously. Still nothing. Finally, he let it drop on the bed. He looked back at the bed. The bed stared back. Finally, in a fit of quick decision making, he stood and walked towards the door. Before opening it, he glanced at the tube. He was still confused. He still had no answers. He had no idea what kind of name was "A" but since he didn't even have that, he couldn't really judge.

"I'm going now," he said to the tube, "Wish me luck. Not that you can, but... I think I'm going to need it."

The bed stared back. Sheepishly, Merlin left. Maybe, beyond the door, he'll have better luck. Or a name. He wouldn't mind getting one. As long as it wasn't "A".

Character Name: Kurosaki Tasuku (Daisy)
Canon: Dengeki Daisy
Reference picture and Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengeki_Daisy
Point in the time-line taken: After chapter 26

Character History:
Kurosaki is a 24-year-old high school janitor with a rough attitude and a reputation for being a hoodlum. Kurosaki is an amazing hacker. When he was younger, he got into some trouble, and was bailed out by a computer/engineering genius who brought Kurosaki into his team of computer-type people. The team worked for an organization, mainly doing protection-type things. The leader of the team died under ~mysterious~circumstances~, strongly implied to be Kurosaki's fault. Before he died, he charged Kurosaki to protect his little sister at all costs, using Kurosaki's hacker handle, Daisy.

Daisy keeps in touch with the girl through a cell phone, given to the girl by her older brother. Because of his genius programming skills and the fact that he left his sister penniless, everyone connected to the older brother seems to think the girl is hiding something, and Daisy spends his time protecting her from the shadows against people from her brother's past. The rest of the time, he goes by Kurosaki, and hides in plain sight, as a janitor in the school she goes to, generally acting the hoodlum, slacking off, smoking, and threatening everyone who crosses him with a gardening tool.

Motivation
Kurosaki wants to eliminate any threats to Teru.

Kurosaki Tasuku (Daisy)

[identity profile] smoothdetecting.insanejournal.com 2010-09-19 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality:
Kurosaki has two distinct personas. On the one hand, he is a gentle, caring man quick with comforting words. He cares deeply about the people who are close to him, and wants the best for them. He tends to be somewhat touchy-feely, as well, and is secretly lonely and rather sad. He’s also incredibly intelligent, at least in the way of computers, as well as insightful of others’ emotions. However, this persona is buried under his other, stronger persona.
The more dominant persona is that of a brash, loud, obnoxious perverted smoker whose only goal is to push everyone who might possibly care about him away. He wants nothing more than to annoy everyone and be alone. He tends to hate the world, and is lazy and brutish.

He's your typical tsundere, with a strong tendency towards violence. He honestly cares about the people closest to him, but when crossed, look out. He puts on a show for the girl he protects, letting her see Daisy as a kind, gentle older-brother-figure that she can turn to for anything. And honestly, he does care for her and want to be gentle with her, but he also doesn't believe that he deserves love and kindness, and so pushes her and everyone else away, so they don't get hurt.

Blank Personality:
As a blank, Kurosaki would waffle between the two personas, with neither quite being dominant. He has no particular reason to hide his squishy side, but it’s still going to be far more natural for him to say, threaten people with gardening tools than it is for him to tell them to go away nicely. He’ll be highly protective of his team, to the point of his own injury, and will tend towards being coldly calculating against any who might attempt to cross him.

With no strong reason to hide his squishy side, he's likely to open up to his teammates in ways he never would in canon. However, trust is not going to be easy for him, as it's fairly ingrained that he can't trust anyone but himself. So while he is likely to be warm-fuzzies for his teammates, he's equally likely to strike back hard and fast at anyone who crosses him. He'll be protective of those he cares about, and will honestly not want anyone hurt, but he will always have a top priority of his team (unless the girl he protects were to show up). Before he gets any memories back, he's most likely to be fairly lazy and nonchalant, working as much as he needs to, but no more.

Writing Sample:

He woke up slowly, not sure at first what he was seeing. Light, and sounds, but nothing he recognized, nothing he could place. He blinked slowly, waiting for things to make sense.

Nothing happened.

He still didn’t recognize anything, and he was sure he should have by now. Worse, there was something important to him. Where was it? Something he needed, more important to him than... than...

More important than anything, he was sure, but he couldn’t remember what it was. Sitting up sharply, he began digging through the bedclothes. Whatever it was, it had to be close. If it were that important, he wouldn’t have left it somewhere right?

Right?

When his fingers brushed the metal tube, he grabbed it as though it were a lifeline, pulling it out for examination. Was this it?

Holding it up to his ears, he heard the tinny voice inside repeating its message over and over.

“--orry, someone’s watching out for her. Do your duty. I do this willingly. Don’t worry, someone’s watchi--”

Well, what the hell was that supposed to mean? Did he have a girlfriend? A wife? A family, perhaps? He reached up to his lips, feeling like there was something missing there too, and growled. No help at all. There were important things here, things he needed, and he was a fucking amnesiac.

Do his fucking duty, huh? With no clue what that would be, he paced for a moment, trying to think. Before too long, though, the brass tube was flying across the room with a loud clang.

Then, for shits, he began throwing everything else he could find in the room. The bed, the furniture, everything went up against the walls, and when the room was good and trashed, he sat down in the center of the chaos with a grin.

That may not have solved his problems, but it sure felt damn good. Maybe he could go find some other things to throw around. At some point someone would notice, and then things would start happening. They had to, right?

Do his fucking duty indeed.

The vanity wiki has a much more thorough description of him.
Point in the time-line taken: After the events of Fang, the most recent book in the series.

Character History: At the tender age of four months old, a young boy named James Griffiths was taken, kidnapped from his parents and brought to a place known as "The School" for the purposes of genetic experimentation. The end result makes him and a few other children 98% human and 2% avian. Other experiments are performed on the children, which gives each of them particular special abilities. An experiment on trying to enhance James' night vision rendered him blind.

When he was about ten or so, one of the scientists--Jeb Batchleder--takes the children and escapes with them. As none of them know their real names, they styled their own names--and James chooses "Iggy" for his. These kids called themselves the Flock collectively. Two years after Jeb rescued the Flock, he disappeared, presumed dead.

Four years after their escape, the Flock found themselves being chased after the School's foot soldiers--human/lupine hybrids called Erasers. It turned out that Jeb wasn't dead after all, he was still working for the School, and everything was meant to be another experiment. Their destiny is to save the world, Jeb said. Or at least, it's their leader, Max's, destiny. But the Flock escaped from him again, and decided to try and figure out who they are--and they end up trying to save the world at the same time.

Motivation Iggy would really, really like to be able to see.

Canon Personality: Iggy is generally a pretty laid-back guy. He doesn't really trust most people, but he is willing to at be social. He isn't overly given to thinking things through, preferring to act on impulse... which can occassionally lead into trouble. Iggy is a huge fan of explosives and fire, and has a talent for making bombs out of everyday items. Sarcasm is his main method of communication, and he's a huge fan of irony.

He has a strong sense of loyalty, and will do anything he can for the people he cares about. What he hates more than anything else is being treated like he's helpless, like he can't help simply because of his disability. He's got a huge independence streak, and will do anything he can without help, but he's not so stubborn as to refuse aide when he needs it.

Blank Personality: Much of his personality wouldn't really change with the loss of his memories. Not having memories of what the School did to him and being betrayed will do a lot to soften his trust issues. His loyalty to the Flock would likely transfer to his team, and he'd be just as willing to fight for them. A need to prove himself wouldn't be as strong unless he gets treated as being incapable or as though he can't do things without help. Sarcasm will always be his favourite way of expressing himself, but it might take a while to develop a sense of irony without any previous experience in it.

He certainly can't wake up knowing what explosions and fire are, but it'd probably take as long as his first experience with them to realize how very awesome they are.

Writing Sample:

The Blank awoke to nothing.

Well no, that wasn't quite right. He could feel things... the rough sheets underneath him, stone walls--or at least, that's what it felt to his grasping hands--and then there was something beside the bed, something hard and metallic and shaped like a tube. If he tried, the Blank could hear a soft sound coming from the tube, like a voice talking. But if there were sights worth seeing, well, he sure wasn't seeing them.

"Hello?" the Blank called out, but he got not answer.

It could be a prank, or maybe he was a prisoner somewhere. It could be anything, really, the Blank figured as he rolled the tube around in his hands. But as the Blank tried to think of the "what" and "why", he realized he couldn't think of a single reason. It would probably help if he could remember... well, anything.

The soft whisperings were still continuing from the tube. The patterns sounded repetitive, but he couldn't quite make out what was being said. With a shrug, he lifted the tube to his ear. It's not like he had anything better to do, after all.

"It's time to do something about this," the voice said. The tone was a light one, and yet determined. And... it was familiar. It was his own, the Blank realized with a start. "I do this willingly." There was a pause, and then the voice repeated himself.

"Oh yeah, that's helpful," the Blank muttered sarcastically as he pulled the tube away. Then he paused and laughed. "Yeah, sure, I see everything now!"

Still chuckling to himself, the Blank headed towards a breeze he felt. Maybe it led to an exit, and explanations. At least, it was better than sitting around.

Character Name: M-21
Canon: Noblesse
Reference picture and Wiki link
Point in the time-line taken: chapter 149ish, not long after learning that all the data on the M-series experiments were destroyed.

Character History: M-21's first memory is of waking up in a tube without memories... He was one out of a hundred early human-weapon experiments conducted by an evil organization. One by one he watched his fellow experiments disappear from their tanks as they failed various testing, until there were only eight of the M-series experiments left. They were then released from their tanks and used as test subjects and bases for more advanced experiments until only two of them were left.

Due to cellular instability that could only be staved off by special pills, and the fact that they exhibited no interesting powers, M-21 and M-24 were considered failed experiments. Luckily for them instead of harvesting them for parts they were allowed to work as low leveled grunts in the organization. Constantly fearing they would be disposed of, or worse, get taken back in for more experiments, M-21 and M-24 hid the fact that over the three years they worked as grunts they were becoming more stable and slowly starting to develop powers. M-21 eventually didn't need the pills at all to survive, giving them hope that they would soon be free of the organization and could start on their own goal of finding everyone's names.

Unfortunately before M-24 fully stabilized the two of them got involved in a mission that an old vampire (Rai) and his very powerful servant (Frankenstein) took an interest in, which brought down more and more attention from their higher ups. It was a mess and they eventually sided with the vampire, with M-24 dying in the process, leaving M-21 to carry on their personal mission. When the dust settled Frankenstein offered to let him go into hiding with them, so now M-21 works at Frankenstein's school as a security guard, while they continue their investigation of the organization.

Motivation He wants to find a list of his comrades' real names, along with whatever other data the organization had on each of the M-series test subjects.

Canon Personality: M-21 starts off kind of violent and survivalist due to his experiences as an experiment. Understandable, seeing as from the day he woke up he saw the organization slowly kill every one of the people he trusted until there was just him and M-24 left. By the time he met Rai and Frankenstein there was literally no one else in the world he cared about aside from his partner, and he had no qualms about screwing anyone else over or misdirecting his doucheyness at civilians because the organization was too big for him to fight. He seemed to think the only way they could survive was through cruelty and cowardice. However after M-24 dies he becomes much more subdued and his attitude starts to change.

Rai and Frankenstein are really M-21's first exposure to people who are kind to him without any sinister ulterior motives. Before them, everyone treated M-21 as if he was a failure or trash to be disposed of, and despite how he hates this and rails against it, he can't seem to help believing some of it himself. He has difficulty understanding what normal human rights he has, and often forgets he can ask for things, or that he is deserving of the things he asks for. And whenever someone is nice to him, his first response is always to wait for the other shoe to drop. Given how he thinks, it's no surprise that he has a very low sense of value of his own life. For a long time M-24 was the only person he knew that wanted him to live. M-24 was his strongest motivation for self-preservation, and without him around M-21 ends up doing reckless, self-endangering things in order to achieve his goal. He also has growing pains adjusting to the moral compass he is developing. Combined with his any-means-to-an-end attitude, he often ends up hurting people to try to protect them.

He hasn't quite gotten over hiding his weaknesses, and rarely lets on how he feels in obvious ways, but under Rai's influence he's starting to get better at it, and in current canon shows some good signs of opening up and growing into a more decent person.

Blank Personality: Because there won't be a clear "other" from the moment he wakes up, how he develops in Sabra is likely to be heavily influenced by what team he ends up on and their attitudes towards themselves and people off team. In canon it's obvious right away who his peers are and who his enemies are, and he had plenty of time to solidify his opinion in isolation. In Sabra these divisions are murkier because it generally isn't true that every other team is out to hurt you, and whatever early opinions he forms can be directly affected by people. But anyway, if he ends up on a team that puts themselves first there is a chance he'll develop in a similar way as he does in canon. If he ends up on a team that is pretty open to other teams he'll be more friendly overall, and consequently more conflicted when a bad game happens and he doesn't know where to direct his attacks.

Whatever type of team he gets he will most likely be quick to trust them, which is why his initial shaping will be pretty important. Like with lots of traumatized charas, without the baggage of all his experiences as an experiment he'll be more open and, for a while, more well adjusted. He won't have all those self-worth issues, and unless people are clearly out to hurt him, he'll probably be less suspicious and paranoid about people's intentions. He may still naturally tend towards seeing the negative of anyone that does end up "other" to him, but it won't be anywhere near as pronounced as in canon for a while. Towards his own team he'll naturally be protective and accepting of whatever character they have, especially if they're nice to him.

He has the potential to be cutthroat and ruthless or kind and self-sacrificing, depending on what influences he gets and the order of the memories he gets back. He's really pretty malleable and adaptable. The one thing he'll know for sure is that he had a goal in coming to Sabra, and this will make him accept the realities of where he is fairly quickly, and he'll never be one of those charas that wonders why he's here and whether or not it's worth it.

Character Name: Mao
State before going with Surgeon: Fairly well-adjusted in terms of Sabra, but has seriously regressed on his own character arc (learning to trust people, etc). He is deeply loyal to bunnycorn but otherwise wary of everyone and generally reclusive.
Amount of Time with Surgeon: Since 156, so a little more than a couple of weeks.
A little bit of your life as an intern: Sooo much science with the coolest Judge he knows. *_* He was a little ornery, as is his way, but I imagine Surgeon has him pretty well-trained by now. He was already pretty Pavlovian for science.
Scientific result: Mao will return with a heart full of sadistic joy and a head brimming with medically unethical ideas. Which is to say, back to normal, and in a very good mood.
