Motivation Basically, if Yoko tells DS to do something, he will do it, and frankly, this would seem like a great deal compared to what they’re dealing with right now.

Canon Personality:
Lucien is dumb. Lucien is very very dumb. He can nearly drown just washing his face. Although he’s 17, he looks closer to eight and acts more like five. He’s been surrounded by violence and death for the last two years of his life (that we know of, possibly longer), and seems to be completely oblivious to it. His favorite activity forever is laundry, and he is basically the most upbeat person ever. He’s innocent, seemingly untouched by the chaos and destruction that goes on around him. When he is in danger, he’ll sometimes cry, or try to hide, but if offered a cookie, he’ll nearly always immediately forget his trauma and be happy once more. He simply doesn’t have the mental capacity to comprehend true danger.

Dark Schneider is brash, overconfident, and obnoxious. But underneath that, he is a very lonely person. Because his soul was literally pulled apart, he spent 400 years being completely devoid of emotions, and so attempted to fix this by filling his life with sex, good food, and power. He was unable to cry, or be truly happy, or to love. So the physicality of having power, or having sex, or eating food gave him something similar to emotions. He was also kind, adopting children and young people who needed him, doing his best to help and guide them. His first adoptee, a young man named Kall Su, eventually became his ‘other half’ and somehow helped him become more human, though how this partnership worked was never explained. Having been joined to Lucien, he has no idea that he now has emotions (it’s canon, he thinks he’s still emotionless somehow), and tends to act much like he did when he didn’t have emotions, which involves a lot of skirt chasing, spell casting, and declarations to the world about his greatness in third person. However, he is now capable of caring very deeply about people, which may be part of the reason he generally avoids actually killing people (or at least named, plot-relevant people and the ones they care about). He doesn’t understand why the people who knew him before he was trapped inside Lucien constantly comment on how different he is from the person they knew him as before.

The personalities never actually interact. Lucien is completely unaware of the fact that DS is inside of him, and will never refer to DS at all. DS actually is aware of Lucien, and rests just below the surface of Lucien’s consciousness, and so is often entirely aware of what is going on while Lucien is in charge. He can even partially transform when Lucien is asleep, taking over Lucien’s body and using his own voice, even though the body itself is still Lucien’s. He usually does this when someone he cares about is in trouble, indicating that he’s aware of what is going on around him even with Lucien is unconscious. However, Lucifer, Lucien’s true form when he is entirely unsealed, is completely aware of everything both other personalities are doing, and is the only one who can, in fact, speak to another personality, usually in the form of a cryptic message given by a ghostlike Lucien that only DS can see. Lucifer is capable of materializing physically, as well, but this will never ever happen in Sabra due to bracers and lack of killer angels sent by the gods.

Blank Personality:
Lucien isn’t going to change terribly much. It’s hard to get any reaction at all from Lucien, as he is essentially too dumb to change.

DS will start out as nearly emotionless. He will know that he’s missing something, but won’t be able to comprehend what until he gets a few memories. Without the memories of the fifteen years he spent dormant, he won’t have any real understanding of human emotions. The more obnoxious parts of his personality won’t show up until he gets some memories of how awesome he is, so he will tend to be quiet and likely to stay back from the crowd. Because of his connection to Lucien, he will care very deeply about anyone that Lucien cares about, and since he will start out as Lucien, this will help him connect to his team. He will still be highly protective of ‘his’ people, particularly women, will still be incredibly curious, and will be inexplicably kind, liable to adopt people whom he feels need protection and guidance. In terms of things like violence and killing, he will be very influenced by the team that he is on.

The personalities will not actually interact at all. Lucifer is too powerful and will be held back by the bracer, and the circumstances for his appearances are too specific and difficult to recreate in Sabra anyway. DS will be aware of what is going on while Lucien is in charge, but won’t be able to overpower Lucien at any point that Lucien is awake, and can only partially overpower a sleeping Lucien if he has a huge motivation to do so (IE some kind of terrible and immediate danger to the people he cares about). Lucien will continue to be completely unaware that sometimes he turns into someone else.

Writing Sample:

The blank woke up and blinked. Sitting up, he rubbed his eyes for a moment. “I’m hungry!”

When no food was immediately forthcoming, he looked around the room. There wasn’t much in it that caught his interest. A bed, walls, a dresser... He perked up when he saw the pile of clothing. There was something he could do with that, he knew it! Something useful! He liked to be useful!

But he couldn’t think what that would be, and after a moment of trying to remember what it was, he lost his train of thought. What was he doing here again? He decided he should get up and explore. That would be useful! Maybe he would find someone! Someone who would help him!

He immediately tripped over the brass tube on the floor and bumped his knee. He sniffled a little, rubbing where he’d hurt. That didn’t feel good at all. But the brass tube was shiny and he couldn’t stay upset for long, because shiny things are interesting. Inside there was a tall man with white hair talking. Softly, if he’d bothered to listen, he could have heard a voice yelling “Find a virgin and kiss her, quick! I’ve got a--!!” before it was cut off and repeated. But the man was kind of scary-looking, so instead, the blank decided to roll the tube around. It quite easily rolled right up to the wall, and if he pushed it hard enough, it would come back.

This kept him amused for hours.

Character Name: The Doctor (Meta-crisis), aka The Doctor.2

Point in the time-line taken: Post series-four finale.

Character History: There once was a man--more like an alien who looked like a man--or something like that--who ~~stole~~ borrowed a ship known as a TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) and travelled the universe, favoring a small blue planet called Earth. This eccentric being grew up set apart from his own race of people and was often known for running from his responsibilities and generally interfering with the Timeline as well as picking up stray humans and other beings to travel with over time. Over ten regenerations, ten different personalities and faces, the alien-man known as the Doctor lived a singular existence (even more so after the destruction of his homeworld and people in the Time War) until one fateful Christmas during a particularly rough regeneration, he lost his hand. And grew another one.

Insert lot of plot points, including almost getting killed by a Dalek but stuffing the regenerative energy into the spare hand (returned to him by a one Captain Jack Harkness) so that the Doctor could continue on in his tenth regeneration and add a dash of one human companion Donna Noble, and the Meta-Crisis Doctor is born. This, of course, occurring during a moment where the TARDIS and Donna Noble herself were about to be destroyed within the Dalek invasion forces' Crucible. Being half-Time Lord, half-human, the Meta-Crisis Doctor finds himself with the brain and wits and basis personality of the original Doctor but with the body and a few personality quirks of his human companion. So, with the fate of twenty-seven worlds as well as the whole of reality at stake, he single-handedly destroys the whole of the Dalek fleet, an act reminiscent of the destruction the original Doctor once caused during the Time War.

After the universe is saved once more, the Doctor leaves the Meta-Crisis Doctor with Rose Tyler in the alternate reality, condemning the part-human Doctor for the act of genocide but also giving him a chance to make things right and giving Rose Tyler a Doctor who would not regenerate and would be able to grow old with her.

Motivation: Looking after Rose Tyler, who somehow got mixed up in this mess.

Canon Personality: The Meta-Crisis's personality is, of course, mostly made of the original Doctor's. He is excitable, fast-talking, obnoxious, and very much holds himself highly in terms of his level of intelligence. He has all of the memories of the original Doctor up until the point of his "birth" and thus acts upon those memories. However, because he was "born" in the heat of battle and in the midst of destruction and anger, the Meta-Crisis Doctor does exhibit more of the personality traits which the Doctor himself states as being like him in his ninth regeneration. The darker aspects of the Doctor's personality is a bit more forefront with the Meta-Crisis being willing to destroy an enemy without giving them the benefit of a last chance if it's for the good of all.

On the other hand, the Meta-Crisis also has Donna Noble's influence and DNA pattern to thank for a whole new set of personality quirks. Thanks to that bit of human DNA, the Meta-Crisis does have the body of a human which includes one heart and all the vulnerabilities of humanity. In addition to this, Donna's more crass attitude that is a defensive and determined reflection of her own personal self-doubt combines with the Doctor's own blunt and straight-forward moments to make for a snarky and possibly more aggressive personality. The human-half of the Meta-Crisis also means that, on the flipside, he is able to exhibit and act upon emotions more familiar to humans than the Doctor himself can--such as whispering his love to Rose Tyler when left on the beach in the alternate reality.

Blank Personality: With no memories of the Doctor or even the immediate influence of Donna Noble, the Meta-Crisis will have a fairly normal start as a human--well, a far-out there genius-level human, anyway. The Meta-Crisis will be a lot more upbeat and more in-tune to his immediate surroundings and peers and thus a bit more human in his reactions. He will likely still be energetic, obnoxious, and have a gob on him that will not stop, babbling nonstop when excited, but the whole while, his Time Lord-half mind will work overtime and be able to make connections most people cannot. The Doctor's innate trait of curiosity and inquisitive ponderings will have more of a forefront, but when faced with a conflict, the tenacity and stubbornness of Donna can come out, accompanied by the Oncoming Storm's darker aspects during times of grave consequences.

Writing Sample:

Floor. Door. Bed. Wall. Ceiling. Brass tube that has a message from some bloke he didn't recognize.

Not a whole lot in the room the Blank found himself waking up in, but just enough to tell him a few things about his current self. For one, no memory. Not a one. It was off-putting and frustrating but he was able to work passed that by reassuring himself that he knew the function of a bed and its blankets and sheets--that at least was innate. For B--no. Wait--two, the message was general useless and unhelpful. Unless, of course, the message was supposed to serve the amnesiac who held it as a reminder of something or another--past things, maybe?

Even so, he felt a little bit gypped at the message he was left with.

"She's all you've got. Look after her since he won't. I do this willingly."

... now, supposing he could figure out who this "her" and "she" was, and supposing that he and "she" had managed to end up in the same place at the same time, and supposing that "she" even knew about why he was there in the first place--how in ruddy hell was he supposed to find "her" if he couldn't remember a bloody thing? And that's not even getting into which "he" the message may have been meaning. Suppose "he" was... well, him? That would be awkward, also conflicting and confusing with a few other con- words that he tried to come up with before distracting himself with a new perspective.

Maybe that was part of the challenge, part of the fun. In either case, there was not much else for him to do except go through with what was already done. And, he thought to himself as he hopped off the bed and tossed the tube in the air before catching it, just imagine what could be waiting outside of that door--exciting, right?

The smell of food certainly emphasised that idea. "Oi!" he called out, exiting the room. "What's for supper? I'm famished!"

Character Name: Elliot Nightray
Canon: Pandora Hearts

Point in the time-line taken: Chapter 57.
Character History: Elliot Nightray is the youngest son of the Nightray family, a noble family in the unnamed land of Pandora Hearts. The Nightray family suffers from a bad reputation, thanks to the fact that it's been said that the Nightrays murdered Lady Vessalius, the mother of the series' hero, Oz. Elliot was taught from a young age to hate the Vessalius family, and also to take out his hate on everyone else, to internalize it and to know nothing else but it. However, his hatred did not extend to his adoptive brother, who receieved an important part of the Nightray inheritance, despite his brothers' despisal of him.

Elliot also got his own servant at about this time, a mysterious orphan named Leo. His brothers mysteriously started being murdered, and at the same time, Elliot began having strange, bloody dreams. While he was at boarding school, he met Oz Vessalius, and developed an immediate, strong dislike for him, even without knowing his family history. However, after they help eachother several times, they admit that they are actually willing to become friends. Elliot has been determined to investigate the mysterious person who has been murdering his siblings, and he continues to do this up until he attends Oz's second coming of age ceremony After his sister, Vanessa, is murdered at this ceremony, we find out that, in fact, it was probably Elliot all along.

Motivation His motivation would be twofold, first, to willingly escape his situation at home, especially the stuff he most recently recalled, and also to bring his dead family back.
Canon Personality: Elliot has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and he won't hesitate to tell anyone exactly what he thinks of them. Often rather loud and in-your-face, Elliot doesn't even hesitate to tell people he barely knows how to live their lives and how he thinks they could improve as people, especially if they are the self-sacrificial type. Despite his noble upbringing, he can often come off as a bit rude and unrefined. He can be quick to anger, and he is often the first to point out the stupidity in a situation, in a straightforward manner. He also sometimes has a bit of a temper, prone to being a bit of a spazz and making a scene when he disagrees with something, or when people do things that he'd consider "unseemly" or "embarrassing".

However, he keeps up this prickly exterior for a reason. After living a childhood being told that he came from a family of murderers, he set out to make himself as unlikeable as possible, being intentionally rude so that people wouldn't get close to him, since he didn't feel himself worthy of kind attention. He was told to direct his anger out at others by the members of his family, and so he did, expounding the bad reputation he had as a result of his family name.

Beneath this exterior rough personality, though, Elliot is essentially a gentle boy, who cares deeply for his family, and for the couple of friends that he makes over the course of the series. Eager to please his family members, he does his best to love things that his older sister, Vanessa, does, and he cares quite deeply for others' wellbeing. He isn't the best at comforting, but when he cares about someone enough, he'll do his honest best. He has also promised himself to be less influenced by his family members' opinion of things, deciding to make his own way through life, and his own decisions.

Blank Personality: So much of Elliot's personality that we see in canon is influenced by some of his earliest memories, especially by the murder of his siblings and the reputation he carries as a member of the "evil" Nightray family. As a result, most of his "noble" affectation would be gone. However, I think that one of the traits that would remain is his determination and his willingness to go the distance for people that he cares about. He's the sort who really wants to find his own way to deal with issues, and he isn't always the best of team players, but he will always hold his family in high regard. He would probably still keep some of that temper, and some of that love of justice that he values so highly over the course of the series, but it would be a bit more muted without all of those years of memories of feeling isolated. He's a bit on the uptight side in the series, and while I don't think he'd lose that completely, he would definitely be less guarded around new people than he mostly was in the course of the series, and less likely to intentionally alienate them. He'd still be the headstrong boy who has a tendency to investigate anything he finds suspicious. He'd probably be less likely to lecture people for their faults though, since his hatred of the self-sacrificing seems to have developed from his own family background.

Writing Sample: The mousy blonde blank woke up to a strange metallic lump digging into his back. Not the sort to lie around when he was feeling uncomfortable, he sat up, and reached behind himself blinding. When his fingers found the strange object, he brought it back, and only then did he think how odd it was that he didn't know where he was.

The object didn't seem to hold any answers, though, and he almost put it down impatiently when he heard a flicker of sound come from the strange device, and he picked it up roughly, trying to locate the source of the noise. He finally noticed that there was a bit of a hole that he could look through, and, cautiously, he did.
Within the strange device was a moving figure of a young man, with blue eyes and a strange, hollow expression. The sound he heard was the same few words repeated over and over again.

It's easier this way, if you'll believe that much. I did this willingly.

His eyes widened a bit as he watched the clip through a few more times, not entirely sure what he had seen. But he knew that that was not any sort of explanation. Not an explanation for how he felt so empty, how he felt like everything was missing. And he knew that he'd have to figure out a way to get that back. He threw the device back onto the bed and got up. He could hear other noise too, and it wasn't just those mysterious words coming from that bizarre metal object. There were voices mixing together just outside the door to the room he was in. He hated to admit it, but the people behind those voices might just be the people he needed to solve this problem. To understand just what was happening.

They might be the ones who could tell him how or why this was easier.

Character Name: Uchiha Obito
Canon: Naruto

Point in the time-line taken: Post-death, Chapter 244

Character History:
Obito was a member of the Uchiha Clan, a family of elite ninjas in Konohagakure. Known for their use of Fire Jutsu and their kekkei genkai, or genetic ability, the Sharingan eye, the Uchiha were a family highly respected for their skills. After graduating from the Ninja Academy at the age of 9, Obito was later promoted from the rank of Genin to Chuunin at the age of 11. As a member of Team Minato, which consisted of the future fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato, Hatake Kakashi and Rin, Obito was sent out during the Third Great Shinobi World War.

His mission was to destroy the Kannabi Bridge to prevent the ninjas from Iwagakure from receiving supplies. There were some problems with this, as Obito was at odds with the commander of his mission, Kakashi. They were opposites on how they worked. When their teammate Rin was taken captive by enemy ninja, their opposing viewpoints came to a boiling point when Kakashi refused to go after Rin, insisting that they should complete their mission instead, Obito says that while those ninja that break the rules are scum, those who abandon their friends are worse than scum. With that, Obito and Kakashi parted ways.

After finding the cave where Rin was being held, Obito was attacked, only to be saved by Kakashi who had a change of heart. After Kakashi was injured saving Obito, Obito activates his Sharingan for the first time and manages to defeat the enemy ninja. Once going into the hideout and rescuing Rin, the last remaining enemy ninja uses a jutsu to cause a cave-in, and Obito pushes Kakashi out of the way of a falling rock, causing his right side to be crushed instead. Knowing he was dying, he asked Rin to transfer his one remaining Sharingan eye to Kakashi. With the cave collapsing, Obito tells Kakashi and Rin to leave him and save themselves, which they do reluctantly.

Uchiha Obito dies after the cave finally finishes falling in, being crushed by falling boulders.

Motivation
To be able to spend more time with Kakashi and Rin.

Canon Personality:
Uchiha Obito is a carefree and stubborn individual. Obito was not one to really care for the rules and regulations of being a ninja. He'd have problems following orders depending on what they were or who gave them. He would often show up late to missions with excuses such as helping an elderly woman, he'll wear his emotions on his sleeves when ninja are supposed to keep them hidden, and he'll place the completion of a mission below caring for his teammates. Obito cares a lot for his friends and teammates, putting their well being above his.

Once Obito gets an idea or thought into his head, it'll be hard to change it. When not on missions, Obito would be friendly and a sort of goofball, however, Obito will not show off or be reckless unless pushed to do so.

Blank Personality:
As a blank, Obito would essentially be the same, friendly, a bit of a goofball, and caring about his friends and team. Obito would place his team above all other things and be willing to do almost anything for them. Without his memories, Obito won't know anything about how to use any of his jutsus or know about his Sharingan and what it can do. Chances are that it'll reactivate the first time he's put into a stressful situation and he needs it again. However, Obito will still retain his fast reflexes.

Writing Sample:
"We'll have time again, just don't be late. I do this willingly."

It doesn't matter how many times he looks into the tube, it's the same thing every single time. The blank pulls the tube away from his eyes and sets it back down on the bed he woke up in. He's not sure if it's his bed, he's not sure of anything right now. There were a lot of questions he had, and he doesn't know much. What he knows is that he just woke up and that he doesn't know who he is. And that there was a brass tube near him when he woke up.

The first time he put it to his eye and looked through it, he was shocked to see how beat up the guy in the tube was. He was bloodied and hurt badly, his eyes were closed, or at least that is what it seemed like, and in spite of how he looked, he was smiling. He looked generally happy. And again, "We'll have time again, just don't be late. I do this willingly."

It was a shock to see all that. The blank rubbed the back his head, a little lost in thought, running his fingers through his hair.

"Jeez, what was there to be happy about?"

The blank thinks about it for a moment, before smiling himself.

"Must have been worth it."

He stands up, a little disorientated. He could tell that he was missing an eye and wasn't sure how that happened. Was he born that way? Or did something happen to him? He turns around and looks back at the bed, back at the brass tube. He hesitates for a moment before reaching out and grabbing the tube. He's going outside and hopefully finding someone who could explain all this to him.

State before they left: Pretty stable! Had some okay memories and nothing too traumatizing was happening at the time.

Character Name: Lady/Mary Arkham/Blood
State before they left: COMPLICATED, but basically due to her hard reset Blood managed to construct for herself a persona that is what she perieved as the best possible person she can be for dealing with Sabra. This means someone fairly ruthless, but extremely loyal. She has a hard time dealing with complicated emotions, and has kind of shut down the parts of herself good at feeling sympathy for anyone off her team. To her team mates she is caring and loyal to the extreme, even to her own detriment. At the moment she doesn't really care about her canon self and experiences much at all.
IC day they were dropped: 180
Destination: Went with Soldier to help him "clean his room"
Reaction to their time away: Pretty good! She helped him stab lots and lots of dire rats and that was awesome. But she missed her team a lot. Like, a lot a lot. SOLDIER IS COOL AND ALL, but she was probably pretty lonely. She won't remember much of it, but she'll be really happy to be back with her team.

Character Name: Shut Hell
State before they left: Paranoid and reclusive, … so par for the course, really! At the time she was last active, things were relatively calm, and she missed most of the very exciting times that happened after. So she was about as well as is possible considering both her own issues and the regular hazards of the the Sabra environment.
IC day they were dropped: day 181, thereabouts?
Destination: Pillar.
Reaction to their time away: Shut Hell reacted to her time in the pillar the same way she reacts to most horrible situations: very poorly. Enforced solitude is already one of her biggest issues, and THAT huge panic button will seem pretty minor when compared with being stuck in a hungry piece of rock. She basically spent most of the time very deliberately believing that this was not happening. Most of this was done through focusing on imaginary people, as is her wont.

Because of this super healthy denial, the effects of this on her emerged self honestly won’t be thaaaaat evident. She will have some of the standard subconscious post-pillar tics like avoiding confined situations and shadowing teammates instead of staying alone, but she will for the most part be ignoring everything that happened, and so will essentially be functional. However! The effort of suppressing the entire experience will fracture a lot of her previous ability to compartmentalize the day to day issues associated with being a blank, and because of this she will operate on more of a hair trigger. Soooo chances of flipping the fuck out will be significantly increased. Basically: most of her immediate reactions will be buried underneath a variety of coping mechanisms, but her standard state of mind will be much more fragile. (And let's be honest, it wasn't that stable before.)

Character Name: Selendis
Canon: Starcraft series (games and books)

Point in the time-line taken: From the end of “Wings of Liberty.”
Character History: The Protoss, an ancient, innately psychic race of aliens, uses a caste system. Selendis is a member of the Templar, the warrior caste--which means she has spent centuries of her long life being trained and generally having the Protoss beliefs of honor and duty hammered into her. When the Protoss’ evil biological twins, the Zerg, invaded Aiur, most the Protoss died and the Executor--overall leader of the Protoss military--martyred himself to eliminate their hive mind. Artanis became the political leader of the Protoss and they retreated from their homeworld as a broken and dying race. Artanis took Selendis under his wing as his protege and appointed her the new Executor. Artanis and Selendis led and expedition back to Auir later, but found their race now lacks the might to retake their homeworld. They have turned their attention to rebuilding their forces on another world. Selendis ordered the development of new weapons and proceeded to start rolling about the universe with the remnants of the Protoss fleet to fight weaker Zerg infestations anywhere she can. Occasionally she takes a break and goes to make all her race’s politicians uncomfortable by using blunt, heavy-handed tactics to make them do what she wants. This includes forcing a Dark Templar clan leader to reveal one of its secret sanctuaries in the name of unity, then securing a military victory there over another psionic being, along with Zerg and Terran military forces.
Motivation To purge Auir, the Protoss homeworld, of the Zerg infestation.

Canon Personality: Word of God is Selendis represents the best and brightest traits of the Protoss Templar: she has an inhuman dedication and loyalty to Protoss ideals (all-encompassing racial unity, furious warrior pride and a willingness to lay one’s life down for the greater good). Selendis is a fierce, no-nonsense woman who thinks that she’s better than everyone else. In a race of honorable psionic warriors, Selendis respects straight-up, face to face combat; but she is willing to lay that aside for what is best for her people overall. Sometimes that means running from a fight; sometimes that means attacking a former ally; and sometimes that means incinerating all life on a planet from orbit.

This is a female who doesn’t trust any human woman because one happened to manipulate the Protoss into a very bad position. One who’s willing to openly politically maneuver another Protoss into doing what she wants. She doesn’t care if you don’t like her, because she thinks she knows what’s best and damnit you will do swallow your pride and do it. She is also generally confused and annoyed by your pointless human mannerisms.

Despite Selendis’ air of superiority and all the ferocity she projects, she is painfully aware that as Executor she has some big shoes to fill; martydom is a tough act to follow. She has a burning desire to see her race retake their homeworld from the enemy to restore the pride and glory of the Protoss--even though all it would really accomplish is regaining a broken world. Luckily, she demonstrates that she has enough self-control to wait for the right time for what would currently be a suicide mission, instead turning her attention to more productive things.

Whatever Selendis does, she does proudly, methodically and openly. If she doesn’t like you, she will remind you at every opportunity--maybe even contradicting you on principal. She is the least insulting and contradictory when you use an honorable method to either defeat her in a fight or otherwise prove her wrong.

Blank Personality: The Protoss seem to generally be indoctrinated into their roles over centuries. There’s a reason their base military unit is “Zealot.” Their honor and ideals were learned in order to unite the race and keep it from annihilating itself. Selendis will always be a fierce, arrogant female with inhuman levels of loyalty and dedication; what’s most likely to change is what she is loyal to and what she considers good and honorable. She also won’t be concerned with how she measures up to the previous Executor’s example.

Likely, Selendis will act more like the Protoss in the times when they were split into warring tribes: protecting and acting in the interest of her team will be more important than anything else, even if that means another team must suffer for it. This may not sound like much of a difference, but to the Protoss, who have achieved psychic unity (known as the Khala); those Protoss who cannot join the unity of the Khala develop in entirely different social and cultural ways. Selendis’ unit will be her tribe.

Since the Protoss naturally turn to telepathic communication (they have no mouths), she will also spend a lot of time being frustrated with all the people who keep up their bracer-provided psychic wards. And she will always, always be confused and annoyed at your pointless human mannerisms.

Writing Sample: The Blank stared forward, eyes narrowed and her nerve cords the only part of her not perfectly motionless. They thrashed, betraying her annoyance. The clothes she wore fit her large frame poorly, and the room she was in felt cramped. The knife and cylinder she had found could be grasped only awkwardly in her four fingers.

She recalled the message stored within the device. Within, the image of a purple-gray skinned Protoss female stood proudly, clad in elegant golden armor. Viewing the image must have triggered the message, for the pictured warrior thrust her head forward in a gesture signifying that she would brook no disagreement. Then the voice was in the Blank’s head: carefully enunciated, and full of confidence.

Achieve victory, and restore our people’s pride. En taro Tassadar! I do this willingly.

The Blank found herself feeling indignant at this female’s vague command. Victory over what? she wondered. What happened, that their people had lost their pride? For that matter, the Bland reconsidered the inferiority of her attire compared to that of the images, and concluded that somehow, things had grown even worse.

I can agree to an obvious goal. I must overcome all the obstacles our people face here, she thought, letting the cylinder drop from her hand and disregarding the message. But you no longer have any say in the purpose of our struggle.

Character Name: Gilbert Nightray or Raven
Canon: Pandora Hearts (manga)

Point in the time-line taken: Chapter 57 and ongoing!
Character History: Once upon a time, two poor little boys were abandoned by their parents because one had a red eye. The one with red eye, Vincent, always had to be protected by his older brother, Gilbert, because people saw him as bad luck. And as much as Gilbert wanted to leave him sometimes and be free, he never did. They were eventually taken in by Jack Vessalius and became his servants. Gilbert eventually became a part of a ceremony to be the next vessel for another noble, Glen Baskerville, but Vincent didn't want his brother to leave. In order to stop the ceremony, Vincent opened the door to the Abyss, dragging the town of Sablier and its citizens into the Abyss, a TERRIBLE PLACE where creatures called Chains are born, in the process. Gilbert spent 100 years in the Abyss before being dragged out by Vincent and being adopted into the Vessalius family as a servant.

And then life was okay! Gilbert didn't have any memories of his life since he was dragged out of the Abyss, but Oz Vessalius took him in anyway as a servant. When he was 14 and Oz was turning 15, though, during a coming of age ceremony, Oz was dragged into the Abyss. Gilbert was adopted into the Nightray household. He became a spy for Pandora, an organization that sought to discover the truth of Sablier – but Gil wanted only to gain a contract with a creature called Raven that could help saved Oz from the Abyss. As an adopted son who contracted the powerful Raven instead of a Nightray by blood, though, he had tremendous responsibility – and only ran away. Ten years after the coming of age ceremony they succeeded and Oz was saved, though he hadn't aged, and formed an illegal contract that put a limit on how much time he had left to live. Oops. Gilbert, Oz, and a ragtag bunch of pals trying to stop the Baskerville house from gaining the Will of the Abyss.

Canon Personality: On the surface, Gilbert is cold and stand-offish. He is very serious business!! no matter if you're close to him or not. His general outer attitude is either serious or grumpy, but he can be polite when the occasion calls for it. If you judged him just on ability, he'd seem like a proper heir to the Nightray family and a strong member of the Pandora organization, willful and determined.

But if you got to know him, soon enough it'd be easy to realize that composure doesn't go far. Gilbert is incredibly easy to rile up, even from just light teasing. He's the type who takes everything seriously, especially jokes at his or Oz's expense. He has a good deal of pride that can tend to stick out in bad situations for it. And he has some trivial-seeming phobias and attachments. He's completely and utterly terrified of cats, and you've have to fight tooth and nail to be able to take his hat away from him. He's also tried (and failed) to quit smoking several times after he started thanks to idolizing Oz's smoking uncle.

Behind his grumpy and serious exterior, though, Gil is a very kind man. At heart, he's gentle and merciful, despite his attempts to make it seem otherwise at times. He's very protective of his friends, family and others he becomes close to. The most dire example of this is Oz himself. Gilbert's devotion to Oz is a major part of who he is – Oz is his master and his most important person. He would easily give his life if it meant saving Oz's life, as a servant and as a best friend. He'd jump to Oz's defense in a normal conversation, hating to see unhappy. Oz isn't the only one with power over him, though. Gil is pretty much easy to bully around in general.

Blank Personality: A major aspect of him – his devotion towards Oz – would, of course, be taken away. That's a lot of his drive in life taken away as well – he wouldn't be nearly as motivated without knowing his purpose, to save Oz. His message to himself might help with that, though, and as he gains memories he'll like realize why he came to Sabra as he remembers his master and why his life is in danger. A lot of the changes Oz caused in him as a teenager would change too; he'd be less happy ~*~on the inside~*~ without that person to be devoted to.

In a lot of ways, he'd regress back to the kind of kid he was when he was dragged out of the Abyss with no memories – kind of a woobie and eager to please. He wouldn't be as cold as he is as an adult, but he'd be SUPER SRS!! and very determined even if he didn't remember his purpose. He'd probably be just as easy (if not easier) to rile up or freak out. And as far as sanity goes, he wouldn't be as homicidally overprotective of those close to him in the start, especially without his memories of being a protective older brother to Vincent as a kid.

That's not to say he won't be overprotective eventually, though. His kindness would remain intact and his devotion to his team would likely be at the forefront of his mind. A lot depends on his first memories and first impressions of his teammates, but he would probably deredere for them hard. As he gets more memories, the urge to protect them would probably ramp up with training as a servant and as memories as a loyal friend, no matter the circumstances. He'd probably become incredibly loyal to them, even if it becomes a conflict with his loyalty to Oz in his memories.

Writing Sample: “No matter what, you have to save ---. I do this willingly.”

“Do what willingly?” The blank asked the figure in the tube – and then jumped a little as he recognized that his voice and the man in the tube's voice were very similar. He reached up to feel the same mop of messy black hair hair as the man, and he was willing to bet that he shared the man's golden eyes. Himself. So now what? He'd left himself this?

Maybe, he decided bitterly, he didn't like himself much; a kinder person would have left more context. More information. He'd woken up in a strange bed (though he did not remember enough to decide whether or not it was actually an unfamiliar bed) with no memories and only the brass tube with the message. He was nervous. Unsure. He had nearly fallen out of bed in his fumble to get up and try to figure out where he was when he awoke. Where was he? Who was he? Repeating that same message over and over again didn't help much in answering those questions – but it was all he had.

The blank took stock of the room he was in once again. The bed he had woken up in... and not much else, besides the brass tube. There would be no other hints in here, he guessed.

He watched the message once again. A few more times. Every time, there was a muffled sound where he guessed the name of someone or something should have been, cutting him-in-the-tube off. Who was he supposed to save? Why didn't he give himself that much information, at least? Shakily, the blank set down the tube and thought harder.

He had to save someone. That much was obvious. And the way he himself had said it – it was like that was the most important thing in the world to him. The blank felt a little pang. He wanted to know what he cared so much for. He glanced up – and the door looked inviting as he thought harder. There had to be a reason why whoever or whatever he had to protect had been muffled in his message. Even if he was angry at himself-in-the-tube for giving so little help, he wanted to know what that thing was.

“I have to save...”

His steps towards the door were timid, but he knew he had to take them. If whatever he had to save was outside that door, he had to go out.

Blank Personality: Rapunzel’s personality won’t change very much as a blank; she’ll be similar to her later character development. Without the memories of her mother complex and being told that without her she’ll be eaten by cannibals and trampled by rhinos, Rapunzel will be confident in herself. She’ll still have her perky optimism and perseverance, and definitely her naivety. She won’t be quite as excitable; being outside and meeting new people won’t be such a novelty to her. Living in Sabra, surrounded by people and roaming free, she’ll adjust to it and believe it to be normal.
Writing Sample: The first thing she did when she tried to get up was trip over her hair. It wasn’t any surprise she got tangled when she rolled over, there was just so much of it. The Blank crashed to the floor with a shriek, carefully untangling herself from the never-ending locks. “What is this?” she wondered aloud, fondling the strands of hair. Why on earth would she have this much hair? The girl stood and looked around the room. There was nothing much of notice, a bed and a small metal tube. Briefly, the Blank considered heading towards the door, but the tube caught her attention. She picked it up with some hesitation, turning it over in her hands before bringing it to her eye. Inside, a very solemn looking girl stared back at her. The girls hair looked the same length as her own. ‘This is… Me?’

“This is your best chance. He’s counting on you. I do this willingly.”

Well, that just raised more questions. She looked so grim in that scene, so downtrodden. Her best chance at what? And who was counting on her? “How am I supposed to help anyone if I don’t know who they are? Ugh.” She thunked her head against the bedpost, irritated. For whatever reason, she had been annoyingly vague in the recording, and it hadn’t helped her at all. The Blank sighed deeply and began pacing around the room. “Okay. Okay. I don’t know where I am - or even who I am, my only clue is ridiculously unhelpful, and-” the Blank stumbled again “-And I keep tripping over my own hair. Great.” The girl gathered up the stray hair, bundling it in her arms and thinking over her options. “Alright, this is getting me nowhere. I don’t have answers, so I’ll just have to go find them!” She puffed up her chest, brimming with determination, and strode towards the door.

Character Name: Lily
Canon: Pandora Hearts

Point in the time-line taken: After chapter 57!

Character History: Once upon a time Lily was born to a pretty poor family with waaaay too many children. Her parents decided that neglecting her was THE WAY TO GO. And then they felt especially validated in their choice because ~weird~ and ~bad things~ would happen around Lily. So the village was like, man we should tattoo the devil's sign on this kid and cast her out so she dies! So they did just that. Luckily for Lily a bright warm light entered her and told her she was special -- a Baskerville, and compelled by this knowledge she headed off to find the rest of the Baskervilles.

The Baskervilles are ~special people~ who are emissaries of the Abyss. This means they have a connection to a mystical sort of Hellish place where monsters reside. Lily was oh so very happy to meet these people because they were just like her and didn't care that everyone hated her or thought her useless and worthless. She found her new family! And then they went and slaughtered a bunch of people because their master told them too. But that's okay, it's part of the Baskerville job.

After the slaughter (called the Tragedy of Sablier), Lily and the rest of the Baskervilles were trapped in the Abyss for a while. Recently Lily has been let out again and she made a friend ♥ but then he shot her in the head so she tried to kill him. That is just how Baskerville life is.

Motivation She could have come to Sabra to find a playmate for her hungry hungry ~~hippo~~ soul pokemon, Bandersnatch. Or to bring Fang back to life. Or to revive Glen. There's a lot of reasons, I haven't picked a specific one yet :|a

Canon Personality: Lily is a young girl! And she acts like one. She spills the "secrets of the Baskervilles" easily and conversationally. She approaches problems very directly and doesn't think too much about complicated adult ideals. When she wants to play, she wants to play. She also has a child's sense of 'right' and 'wrong' -- that is not terribly moral one, and it's mostly influenced by people she trusts and what she wants.

But there's a soft side to Lily too! She can also be a nice kid. She likes to talk to people and get to know them. She knows that she's been "powerless" and "useless" but knows to look for other traits as well. If someone else says they're powerless and useless Lily will tell them it's okay! They must have some good qualities, too.

Lily strongly believes in family. She refers to the Baskervilles as her 'true family' because that's where she belongs. She also would really like to have friends! Other people having friends is an enviable trait.

Blank Personality: As a Blank Lily would not be toooo different. She'd still be childish and just a bit cheerfully morally confused. She would probably be less superclose to "family" as she is in canon but would bond with her team nonetheless. Otherwise most of her other traits would remain \o/

Writing Sample:
The girl inside the message was kind of cute. Not very tall. And she had short hair. The Blank thought about this for a bit, kind of cute, not very tall, short hair. That wasn't bad. The girl in the message had jabbed her finger forward and said, "It's important, okay! So, do it! I do this willingly!"

No matter how many times the Blank lifted the message to look at the girl she said the same thing. The Blank even tried throwing the tube to see if the girl inside would change to something else. But she stayed the same.

"... ahh... that's boring...." The Blank said, after looking through the tube for the thirtieth time. So she went over the bed and jumped on it. Up and down. Up and down. Then she tried throwing the tube. But that wasn't very fun after a while either.

Finally the Blank sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the door. "...I'm tired of being alone... Maybe someone out there will ..." That she didn't have an answer to. Talk to her? Say something different than what the girl in the tube said? The Blank wasn't really sure, but the idea of someone talking to her was nice.

"Mm! I'd like that! Let's try for that!" She said, and opened the door.

Character Name: Horokeu Usui (Horohoro)
Canon: Shaman King

Point in the time-line taken: Right at the point of the original ending of the series, just before the Kalim fight.

Character History: Horohoro belongs to the Ainu people of Northern Japan, a group of people who carried deep ties with nature. As the eldest son of the tribal leader, he was obligated to be trained as a shaman at an early age, the responsibility of the Shaman Fight placed upon his tiny shoulders for that generation. He was actually a stoic young man who resented his responsibility until he met a girl(friend) at school, who unfortunately passed away in a terrible accident because of him. Due to this, Horohoro continues to train, this time with a partner spirit named Kororo, who he doesn’t realize is actually the reincarnated spirit of his former dead girlfriend.

Horohoro ends up in Tokyo to participate in the Shaman tournament, and encounters Asakura Yoh, who he bonds with instantly during their first match. They continue to make their way through the tournament together, though not without picking up more allies, and encountering deadly foes. Overcoming adversities with the power of heart and sheer willpower!!

Motivation Similar to what he wanted during the Shaman King tournament: He wants a to be able to restore the nature around his hometown and save the nature spirits, by creating a giant field of fuki/butterbur.

Canon Personality: Horohoro easily fits the stereotypical dumb shounen boy mold. As the self proclaimed 'King of Idiots', he is rash and impulsive, and most definitely the type who speaks before thinking about it. Common sense is not something he uses often, which often leads to disastrous situations like jumping off a cliff and wrestling bears - all in one day. However, that doesn’t mean that he’s unreliable or stupid; it’s mostly a front to hide his deep dark secret, which... reveals he was indirectly involved in the death of a good friend when he was a young child, and deeply regrets it.

He is in fact, the most reliable of friends, always looking after people. And when faced with a serious problem, he can and does sober up, and often gives deep advice in relation to nature.

Blank Personality: Almost identical to his canon personality. Since his default is shonen retard mode, it’s unlikely that that would change without memories. If so, he may mellow out and listen to people a little more, because he doesn’t have to ‘exaggerate’ his emotions to cover for his UNKNOWN past.

Writing Sample:
Blank walls, blank ceiling, a single door, just a simple bed and that weird brass tube that was lying next to him when he woke up. What in the world had he gotten himself into? There was a slight pause before his mind went to the obvious question, who was he? Why couldn’t he remember a thing? What WAS he doing here? Where was here? WHY WAS HE NAKe-- wait, no, he had clothes on, at least. Good. He exhaled, taking a second to get everything to sink in. Then proceeded to panic some more.

“WHO AM I?!” he screamed, flailing wildly on the bed before his actions caused him to inadvertently roll of it, along with the brass tube next to him, both crashing into the floor with a loud bang. That must have activated something though, as he started hearing a voice coming out of the tube. Rubbing his head, he checked the tube out, finally realizing that there was an end you could look at.

“Do it for the fukis.” A young man with spikey hair greeted him enthusiastically, fists pumping into the air. Then once again, at a much more serious tone, “I do this willingly.”

The Blank gingerly reached up at his hair and noticed they too were in fact, spikey, and came to the conclusion that perhaps the guy in this tube was him. Other him seemed to be quite set on whatever this fukis was. He sat on the floor for a while, pondering this revelation.

“Well this is no good,” he finally said alound, getting up to his feet. “If nothing makes sense in here, then surely... someone else will make sense. And that means I would have to go out and find people!” The Blank mimicked the same enthusiastic fist pump he saw on the tube, then proceeded to exit through the door, determined to find people who can explain things to him. And get some food.

Character Name: Taiki/Takasato Kaname
State before they left: Taiki was doing well. He started to patch a loose chronology of his history together and already had several important memories which helped him feel settled. No severely traumatic things had happened in a while and team was stable.
IC day they were dropped: 203 (around 10 IC days)
Destination: Pillar
Reaction to their time away: Very bleak and tight-lipped about it, he'll have high anxiety over being in enclosed spaces/darkness/silence and deep sympathy for the other people trapped in there. Focusing on his memories kept him going, but he'll remember his relatively short time there wanting to be out and the usual feeling of everything is terrible.

State before they left: There has been continuous stressors, like the pillar threat (coupled with the South Block visions), Jinx's pillaring, and the aftermath of Surgeon's final trick. But he wasn't doing all that badly thanks to Hydracula and the distraction that came with owning a pair of A-T.
IC day they were dropped: 203
Destination: Pillar
Reaction to their time away: Not so good. Issues with being alone and feelings of abandonment have definitely resurfaced and intensified. He's had to reject his childhood abandonment issues hardcore while he was in there, so he wouldn't relapse into mindless zombie mode. Though he's managed to grasp on to what little sanity he could - focusing his thoughts on the members of Hydracula, he's coming away from it with the standard fear of enclosed spaces, being alone, and a greater level of codependency on Hydracula, especially those he has been close to before.
