Apps

Please read these guidelines carefully, as failure to complete the application properly may result in a need for revision or outright rejection. Be sure that you have also read the Rules and General Info pages, the latter of which contains information necessary to write your RP sample.

Apping New Characters

In general, all answers besides the first two should be answered in full sentences with a reasonable grasp of the English language. Run it through a spell-checker; make your Grammar Nazi friend take a look at it. Nothing here needs to be a college thesis, but a little proof-reading can go a long way. We do not demand that your paragraph breaks come at an editorially ideal point, but we do demand that they exist.

We are also looking for insight over length. A longer application is not always better! Take the space you need to give a well-thought-out answer, but walls and walls of text will definitely not speed up the approval process.

Contact/Personal Info
A comment separate from your app with your name, preferred journal, and email. Making it a separate comment lets us know who you are, but lets us keep your email address screened.

Canon (and version, if applicable)
Should be pretty straightforward!

Reference Picture and Wiki link (again, if applicable)
Again, pretty straightforward!

Point in the time-line taken Whether the character comes from the end of the series or a point partway through. For characters being apped from ongoing canons, we ask that you pick a definite spot to start from, though you are welcome to add memories past that point when your canon progresses.

Character History
A brief summary of your characters history, just so the mods have at least a little background to go on. This section generally need be no longer than 300 words, and if it takes up more than an entire comment you have done it wrong.

Motivation
Basically, why this character would willingly agree to come to Sabra. What you write in here isn't set in stone, especially for ongoing canons, and doesn't have to be that SPECIFIC WISH, but show us you're thinking about it at the least!

Canon Personality
Can be a little longer than the history, if necessary.

Blank Personality
The most important section! Please explain what personality traits you believe your character will lose and retain upon arriving in Sabra La Tau and why. Analysis of why your characters do what they do, and how their memories shape those actions is necessary to give an acceptable answer to this section; simply listing how your character will act is not enough.

Some characters may act in an extremely similar fashion to their canon selves and some may act radically different. However, in either case, we want you to explain why. We want the players to chose for themselves what their character would be like sans memories, but unsupportable (or simply unsupported) answers will be rejected.

Writing Sample
Your character receives the recording that all Blanks receive upon awakening. Describe both the recording and your character's reaction in a ~300 word third-person sample. Yes, it may seem strange to have a third-person sample required in a first-person RP, however, this will give you a chance to show off your grasp of both the canon and Blank incarnation of your character. Don't worry about your purple prose or deadly allergy to adverbs; what we are looking for here is characterization and an interesting spin. Please also keep in mind what can and can't be in that video.

As a general rule of thumb, we tend to prefer apps that describe the Blanks' reaction to seeing themselves in the message over the ones that concentrate on the Blanks' reaction to the room or their own sense of confusion. Introspection is key! How would your Blank's reaction be different from other Blanks?

Reapping Dropped Characters

This app form is for those of you who have dropped a character and wish to pick that character back up. It is NOT for a player who wishes to app a character that someone else has dropped; those characters will use the normal app form and start over as a fresh Blank.

Character Name:

State before they left:
Give a brief description of the character's emotions/state of mind up to the point where they stopped being an active character.

IC day they were dropped:
Gives a good idea of how much IC time they've been away.

Destination:
Where were they, and, if they were with a judge, what was their time away like? For instance, if you went off to frolic with the Foreman, you spent time working just like he said! You were super happy and well fed. You feel like you had the springtime of your life but you really can't remember any of the details! Why? Because you were a giant cave ant at the time! You lucky dog. While it's not strictly necessary to go into much detail about your life as an ant, it makes Foreman conversations in the future more fun.

Reaction to their time away:
This section will vary depending on where your character ended up. Also, if you wish to reset your character and have them join a different unit, this is the place to let us know!
- If they were in the pillar, how will it affect your character to have been completely immobilized, in a semi-conscious state, for the aforementioned amount of time?
- If they were with the Foreman, they spent their time away as a GIANT ANT. What effects did their time away have on them? Mood improvement? Strength and constitution up? Just put on muscle weight? Regained health? Zen with the world?
- If they were with their unit's patron or otherwise away, how was it? What effects did or will it have on their physical and mental health?

Meta-Crisis Doctor 2/3

[identity profile] sonuva_gun.insanejournal.com 2011-01-18 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Canon Personality: The Meta-Crisis's personality is, of course, mostly made of the original Doctor's. He is excitable, fast-talking, obnoxious, and very much holds himself highly in terms of his level of intelligence. He has all of the memories of the original Doctor up until the point of his "birth" and thus acts upon those memories. However, because he was "born" in the heat of battle and in the midst of destruction and anger, the Meta-Crisis Doctor does exhibit more of the personality traits which the Doctor himself states as being like him in his ninth regeneration. The darker aspects of the Doctor's personality is a bit more forefront with the Meta-Crisis being willing to destroy an enemy without giving them the benefit of a last chance if it's for the good of all.

On the other hand, the Meta-Crisis also has Donna Noble's influence and DNA pattern to thank for a whole new set of personality quirks. Thanks to that bit of human DNA, the Meta-Crisis does have the body of a human which includes one heart and all the vulnerabilities of humanity. In addition to this, Donna's more crass attitude that is a defensive and determined reflection of her own personal self-doubt combines with the Doctor's own blunt and straight-forward moments to make for a snarky and possibly more aggressive personality. The human-half of the Meta-Crisis also means that, on the flipside, he is able to exhibit and act upon emotions more familiar to humans than the Doctor himself can--such as whispering his love to Rose Tyler when left on the beach in the alternate reality.

Blank Personality: With no memories of the Doctor or even the immediate influence of Donna Noble, the Meta-Crisis will have a fairly normal start as a human--well, a far-out there genius-level human, anyway. The Meta-Crisis will be a lot more upbeat and more in-tune to his immediate surroundings and peers and thus a bit more human in his reactions. He will likely still be energetic, obnoxious, and have a gob on him that will not stop, babbling nonstop when excited, but the whole while, his Time Lord-half mind will work overtime and be able to make connections most people cannot. The Doctor's innate trait of curiosity and inquisitive ponderings will have more of a forefront, but when faced with a conflict, the tenacity and stubbornness of Donna can come out, accompanied by the Oncoming Storm's darker aspects during times of grave consequences.
